About the Role 🤔

We're looking for a talented mid-level, Product Design Engineer who'll play a pivotal role in creating innovative, market-driven, high-quality product designs specifically designed for manufacture. This role focuses on delivering commercially viable design and engineering solutions that meet both customer needs and business goals.

Beyond product development, the Product Design Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams at Quad Lock, contributing to merchandise, marketing projects, and other related initiatives. As a key member of the Quad Lock Design Team, this individual will collaborate with the Executive Team, Operations, Marketing, Customer Service, and Sales teams to ensure seamless integration of design solutions across the organization.

This role offers a unique opportunity to support the future of Quad Lock’s products while working within a supportive, innovative, and fast-paced environment. Please note, this position is offered as a fixed-term contract of approximately 14 months, concluding in April 2026.

What You'll Do 📱

• Design and deliver innovative, consumer-focused, and commercially viable product design solutions tailored to Quad Lock’s market segments.
• Manage design tasks, ensuring completion within set timeframes and commercial constraints.
• Identify and mitigate technical and functional risks, balancing constraints and opportunities.
• Create robust, user-centric well-considered designs that prioritise requirements within commercial considerations and sound engineering principles.
• Develop and engineer designs with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring manufacturability (DFM).
• Participate in design reviews, providing technical input and feedback.
• Perform comprehensive testing to meet statutory and reliability standards.
• Conduct engineering calculations and select materials/manufacturing techniques aligned with performance targets.
• Review and conduct OTS test reports on pre-production product samples.
• Collaborate with Sales and other teams to identify design opportunities in new and existing markets.
• Liaise with our Manufacturing Manager when communicating with various local and overseas manufacturers and suppliers, obtaining quotations and feedback.
• Maintain detailed design documentation, including drawings, specifications, and Bill of Materials (BOM).
• Develop products that align with Quad Lock’s visual brand language and styling.
• Foster a positive and collaborative work environment within the Quad Lock Design Team.

What You'll Bring 🤝

• Proven Product Development experience in similar industries (consumer electronic or aftermarket automotive accessories is desirable).
• Extensive experience in high-volume manufacturing (e.g. plastic injection molding, die casting).
• Proven experience delivering innovative, consumer-driven product design solutions.
• Ability to translate high-level product requirements into actionable design tasks.
• Skilled in communicating design ideas through sketching, CAD modelling, and prototyping.
• Strong understanding of design & engineering principles and highly capable of applying these during the product development process.
• Experience and understanding of DFM principles with the ability to apply these into practice.
• Familiarity with regulatory standards such as UL, FCC, CE, and RoHS.
• Effective planning and time management skills to meet objectives within time and budget constraints.
• Strong problem-solving and negotiation abilities.
• Proficient in creating parametric 3D CAD models using SolidWorks.
• Experience fabricating prototypes to test form, fit, and function.
• Solid understanding of risk analysis methodologies.
• Ability to provide technical support to Sales, Customer Experience, and other departments.
• Open to sharing and receiving ideas to improve performance and efficiency.
• Exceptional attention to detail.
• Self-motivated with the ability to drive outcomes independently.

• Bachelor’s degree in Product Design Engineering, Product Design, Industrial Design or Technology. 
• Effective communicator across all levels of the business, from executives to technical teams.
• Creative thinker prepared to explore innovative approaches to achieve optimal product solutions.
