The Principal Data Engineer is a senior technical leader responsible for designing and delivering modern, scalable, and secure data architectures that enable enterprise-wide data capabilities. This role will guide the engineering community through best practices, uplift technical delivery standards, and play a critical role in influencing Latitude’s strategic data and cloud transformation initiatives. This role is hands on.
The role acts as a trusted lead to both engineering and business stakeholders, ensuring that data platforms and pipelines are robust, interoperable, and built to support advanced analytics, AI/ML, and operational intelligence.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for:
- Architect Scalable Data Platform Solutions: Design and implement modern, cloud-native data architectures (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, AWS) that scale with business needs and comply with governance, privacy, and security standards.
- Drive Engineering Excellence: Champion and implement best practices across CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and DevSecOps for data pipelines and platforms.
- Platform Interoperability & Enablement: Ensure data architectures enable seamless data flow, integration, and collaboration across platforms, domains, and teams.
- Mentor & Uplift Engineering Capability: Provide thought leadership and hands-on coaching to elevate engineering maturity, solution design quality, and technical problem solving across our Enterprise Technology teams including ….
- Strategic Alignment & Influence: Collaborate with architecture, security, and platform leaders to influence enterprise-wide cloud and data strategy (e.g., ExaCC migration to Snowflake).
- Operational Reliability: Lead the design of resilient data services with robust SLAs, automated recovery, and proactive monitoring.
- Data Governance & Compliance: Partner with governance teams to embed metadata management, lineage tracking, and access controls into data solutions by design.
- Read, experiment, learn and challenge design or technologies which are already in place
- Champion collaboration across domain teams to align engineering practices and ensure consistent application of data architecture standards. Actively contribute to the adoption of the new operating model by embedding reusable design patterns and engineering principles into data product delivery.
- Hands on delivery as part of a local and offshore team.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- 10+ years of experience in data engineering, including leading complex, enterprise-scale data initiatives.
- Demonstrates a strong understanding and experience of cloud data platforms (Snowflake, AWS, Azure Data Services, Databricks, etc.).
- Must have expertise in building data pipelines using modern frameworks such as DBT, Airflow, Kafka, and Spark.
- An automation first mindset, building Data Platforms as Infrastructure as code,, with significant experience in Python, Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.
- Experience designing and building self-service Data PlatformsProven leadership in designing data solutions with strong performance, scalability, security, and reliability characteristics.
- Experience mentoring engineers and uplifting team capability.
- Understanding of data governance, security, and privacy regulations.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Willingness to mentor and help junior/mid-level team members
