Job Description

About the Role

We're looking for a skilled Power Systems Engineer to join GE Renewable Energy’s Hybrids team. In this role, you'll help shape the future of clean energy by supporting the development, analysis, and integration of renewable generation, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and power electronics into modern power grids.

This position combines deep technical expertise with practical application in real-world projects—from concept through commissioning—ensuring high-quality, standards-compliant solutions that meet evolving customer and grid requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and analyse control systems for renewable energy and storage systems using advanced modelling tools like PSCAD, PSS/E, PSLF, PowerFactory.

  • Tune control systems to meet grid code requirements and performance targets.

  • Develop a deep technical understanding of GE Hybrid products and their integration into utility grids.

  • Provide engineering support for equipment design, specifications, system studies, commissioning, and failure analysis.

  • Lead and contribute to new product development, keeping pace with evolving industry standards and grid codes.

  • Represent GE Vernova in industry forums and standards bodies to support product compliance and innovation.

  • Create clear technical documentation and customer presentations that highlight analysis, solutions, and business value.

  • Collaborate with regional teams on global projects to meet project delivery goals—on time, on budget, and to spec.

  • Promote a culture of teamwork, quality, customer focus, and innovation.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related field.

    • Bachelor's with 5+ years of relevant experience will be considered.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in power systems engineering, with strong skills in:

    • MATLAB, PSSE, PSLF, Python, C, C#

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Expertise in power systems modeling and simulation, especially with inverter-based resources (IBRs) and power electronics.

  • Hands-on experience developing and tuning models in PSCAD, PSS/E, PowerFactory, or similar platforms.

  • Familiarity with grid code compliance, system integration, and performance optimization.

  • Knowledge of hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and real-time control validation.

  • Strong programming background in Python, MATLAB, or Fortran for simulation and model customization.

  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with internal teams and external clients.

  • Publication record (IEEE/CIGRE) and/or participation in standards groups is a plus.

  • Patents or innovation in high-voltage equipment design are a bonus.

Why Join Us

At GE Vernova, you’ll be part of a team that’s driving the transition to a cleaner, smarter, and more resilient energy future. You'll work on impactful projects, collaborate with industry experts, and contribute to technologies that are powering the world sustainably.

As GE Vernova is a global organization, working across different time zones, and monitoring, reading and responding to contact outside normal working hours can be expected.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
