Working at Transurban is different; it’s a place where you can see the benefits of your work play out in real life, every day. We create city-sized solutions—building and operating safer, smarter, and more sustainable roads—to solve pressing transport challenges that are slowing cities down.
About the role
We’re seeking a Platform Engineer to manage and enhance our Virtualisation Platform and Infrastructure and its capabilities within Transurban’s technology landscape.
You’ll join an innovative team that collaborates closely with internal and external stakeholders to deliver exceptional user experiences while maintaining high service levels, compliance, and security standards.
As our Platform Engineer, you’ll contribute to lasting and positive changes that shape the future of our cities and communities by proactively managing global virtual infrastructure platforms, resolving incidents, supporting projects, and driving roadmap initiatives. It’s meaningful, challenging, and exciting work.
Day-to-day, you will:
Ensure SLA compliance for all Infrastructure solutions while delivering quality, timely, and cost-effective virtualisation initiatives and projects.
Consult on design, build, and implementation to ensure virtualisation requirements are met with a focus on quality, security, scalability, stability, efficiency, and reliability.
Provide 2nd and 3rd level support for Virtualisation platforms and related infrastructure services, ensuring incidents are logged, maintained, and resolved within SLA objectives.
Maintain the health of the Virtualisation Environment through end-to-end automated monitoring with self-healing capabilities while improving operational efficiency.
Enable seamless handover of virtualisation initiatives and projects to operational support streams while ensuring service standards are reviewed and updated regularly.
Participate in planned disaster recovery events and develop tools and strategies for automated disaster recovery processes.
Identify and manage risks proactively while ensuring compliance with Transurban business and technology policies.
Train and mentor staff on the operational use of Virtualisation Desktop Platforms and appropriate design practices to build internal capability.
This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferable skills and experiences, including:
In-depth expertise with VMware virtualisation technologies, including VMware ESX, vSAN, vRealize Automation and Operations Manager, with proven experience designing, deploying, and managing VMware-based application platforms in pooled and persistent environments.
Strong proficiency in scripting and automation, especially using PowerShell, to streamline deployment, configuration, and ongoing infrastructure management tasks.
Solid understanding of data center operations, covering storage, networking, security, and core protocols such as HTTP, HTTPS, TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP, SSH, SNMP, and FTP.
Experience integrating VMware solutions with cloud services, especially AWS, and an ability to keep pace with industry trends in virtualisation and hybrid infrastructure.
Demonstrated capability in end-to-end project delivery, with skills in documentation, stakeholder communication, and independent management of large-scale technology initiatives.
If you meet some of these requirements, but not all, we encourage you to submit your application.
With a career at Transurban, you’ll enjoy a range of benefits, including:
A range of flexible working and leave options, including the option to purchase an additional six weeks of leave each year
16 weeks paid parental leave (regardless of gender or carer status), with no waiting period, with Superannuation paid during unpaid leave as well
Learning and development opportunities to support your career interests
Health and wellbeing support—access to Headspace and our EAP program, wellness facilities, and more
Share offers and insurance benefits
Social activities, community give-back programs and paid volunteer days
We offer a range of flexible working and leave options, so you can balance your work and life commitments and interests. Have a conversation with us about how this could work for you.
We embrace diversity with a foundation of safety, wellbeing and inclusion; where everyone belongs. We treat everyone with fairness, consideration and respect, regardless of gender, gender identity, marital or family status, sexual orientation, age, ethnicity, religious beliefs, cultural or socio-economic background, perspective, and experience – whether they work for us or not.
