What is the focus of the role?

As a Performance & Reward Partner, you’ll contribute to motivating and aligning employees to Telstra’s strategic business objectives and values. You will coordinate, deliver and advise on our performance, remuneration, recognition and benefits programs with our Consumer, Business and Strategy & Finance businesses in accordance with Telstra’s employee reward strategy.

As part of our People, Culture and Capability team, you will play an important part in our mission to create employee reward strategies that support our people to achieve our Connected Future 30 strategy. Telstra’s Performance & Reward (P&R) team consists of P&R Centres of Expertise (COE), P&R operations and P&R Partners. Our P&R partners work directly with their assigned Telstra businesses to deliver Telstra’s P&R policies, programs and services.

As a Performance & Reward Partner, you will be a self-starter who can take initiative, be curious and not be afraid to challenge and ask questions to help achieve great outcomes. You will also have strong analytical capability and communication skills, and an attention to detail that inspires confidence in everything we deliver. Any previous experience in remuneration, incentives and/or employee benefits will be highly advantageous.

Take your career to the next level working closely with our P&R COEs, and our team of Operational Specialists, to deliver our P&R programs, and provide advice and knowledge to the business. You will be involved in a variety of projects to step-change how we reward our employees and be our primary ambassador to communicate our programs to leaders and employees.

Key Responsibilities

  •  Partner with Telstra Consumer, Telstra Business and Strategy and Finance to understand their P&R needs and concerns and thereafter provide well informed consulting and advice in line with Telstra’s P&R strategy and policies.
  • Lead the education of Business Leaders, People Leaders, People Partners and employees to ensure high levels of understanding and compliance with our P&R strategy, policies and procedures.
  • Deliver Telstra’s P&R programs into the business. This includes programs across all of performance and reward, such as the annual performance and remuneration review, short- and long-term incentives, sales incentives, employee shares or equity, superannuation, employee benefits, recognition programs, global mobility, and any P&R initiatives, such as Gender Pay Equity actions. Most programs will require delivery into all jurisdictions in which we operate.
  • Perform job evaluation and grading as required by the business. Provide guidance, education and diagnosis as to Telstra’s job architecture and remuneration range frameworks to assist development of optimum organisational remuneration structures and practices. 
  • High engagement with senior leadership teams, and relevant people partners, on the annual performance and remuneration review process.
  • Provide strategic guidance on remuneration structures, employee benefit and recognition impacts and any retention arrangements, during mergers, acquisitions, or other organisational changes within the businesses being supported. This will often require working closely with the relevant P&R COEs.
  • Where required, preparing, or contributing to, presentations, recommendations for management decisions, board papers and materials supporting the annual report suite of materials and/or other external reporting.
  • Using strong interpersonal skills to work within a flexible team and across a complex organisation with multiple stakeholders.
  • Scoping requirements and building project plans, bringing stakeholders together and managing against timeframes.
  • Juggling priorities and working flexibly on multiple projects at once and being able to pivot quickly as priorities change.

About You

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Experience in one or more areas such as remuneration, employee benefits, or sales incentives; broader experience is preferred but not required. 
  • Ability to interpret and communicate complex policies to the business in a clear, understandable way.
  • Must be comfortable working with numbers and manipulating spreadsheets; strong Excel skills are essential.
  • Capable of creating clear PowerPoint presentations, well-crafted emails, and effective verbal communication tailored to different audiences.
  • Experience in an Agile workplace and/or project management preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate and utilize Workday HRIS for various HR functions.
