IN A NUTSHELL

Bellroy is looking for a Payroll Lead who thrives on getting things right — quietly, consistently and with minimal fuss. You’ll take full ownership of our payroll function (including a mix of corporate and retail employees), and act as the connective tissue between People, Legal and Finance.

This role offers autonomy, a clear remit, and space to refine and improve processes as we scale. You’ll manage end-to-end payroll cycles, ensure compliance across jurisdictions, liaise with internal stakeholders and international providers whilst keeping a close eye on the details, from statutory reporting requirements to onboarding new employees.

We know payroll requires both rigour and trust. So while you’ll be part of a collaborative team, we’ll count on you to run this area with independence, precision and care.

YOU COULD BE THE ONE IF YOU …
  • Have 4–5 years’ experience in end-to-end payroll processing
  • Worked with retail operations and have a practical understanding of GRIA interpretation - not just awareness of it
  • Managed payroll across multiple entities, and feel comfortable with global contractor management
  • Are highly organised, proactive and autonomous, whilst also comfortable working cross-functionally
  • Can interpret and action statutory reporting requirements to ensure compliance with relevant regulation
  • Have seen and supported businesses through periods of growth or change
  • Are curious about systems and willing to learn - experience with Zone - NetSuite is a bonus
IF YOU WERE HERE LAST WEEK, YOU MIGHT HAVE …
  • Processed and reconciled fortnightly payroll across our Australian business
  • Liaised with our US payroll partner to ensure compliance for a new US employee
  • Lodged our payroll tax and superannuation returns ensuring accurate reconciliation, and ensured compliance with statutory deadlines
  • Reviewed and updated master employee records to reflect onboarding, promotions and pay adjustments
  • Aligned with Finance to map out a payroll calendar and reporting schedule for Q4
  • Stepped into a quick sync with People & Culture to troubleshoot a tricky onboarding case
LOCATION & HOURS

This is a Melbourne-based role with a hybrid structure: ideally in-office Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. We trust our team to manage their time wisely, and we offer flexibility where it matters, because balance makes for better thinking.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
