Job Description

Design the pavements that keep Australia moving.

AECOM is looking for a Pavements Engineer to join our growing Brisbane team. This is an opportunity for an engineer with 1–5 years’ experience to develop their technical career alongside some of Australia’s leading pavement, aviation and transport specialists.

You’ll be involved in the design of pavement infrastructure across a diverse range of complex projects, working across flexible and rigid pavement solutions, pavement materials, design methodologies and rehabilitation.

Whether your experience comes from aviation, highways, ports or heavy-duty pavements, you’ll have the opportunity to broaden your technical expertise and work on projects where the engineering really matters.

How you'll make a difference

  • Deliver pavement design solutions for airports, ports, defence, highways and other transport infrastructure.
  • Undertake pavement design calculations, analysis and modelling in accordance with relevant standards and design methodologies.
  • Develop pavement design reports, specifications, drawings and technical documentation.
  • Contribute to pavement rehabilitation and strengthening design, including assessing existing pavement performance and developing practical design solutions.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to integrate pavement designs with broader civil and infrastructure requirements.
  • Support projects from concept and preliminary design through to detailed design and construction support.
  • Collaborate with senior pavement engineers and technical specialists, gaining exposure to complex and nationally significant projects.
  • Build your technical capability through hands-on experience, mentoring and access to AECOM’s global expertise.

Why this role

This is an opportunity to deepen your pavement design expertise on complex, high-profile infrastructure projects — working alongside some of Australia’s leading specialists.

You’ll work on technically challenging projects across aviation, ports, defence and transport — gaining exposure to different pavement types, design challenges and operating environments that will accelerate your development.

You’ll be part of a team where pavement engineering is a genuine area of technical expertise, with the opportunity to learn from experienced specialists while taking increasing ownership of your own designs and projects.

And with AECOM’s global aviation and transport network behind you, the opportunities to grow your career can go well beyond Brisbane.

Qualifications

What you'll bring

We’re looking for an engineer who is technically curious, keen to learn and genuinely interested in pavement engineering and design.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 1–5 years’ experience in pavement engineering and pavement design.
  • Demonstrated experience or strong interest in pavement design, analysis and engineering.
  • Experience across aviation, ports, highways, heavy-duty or industrial pavements is highly regarded.
  • Familiarity with pavement design methodologies, standards and engineering principles.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to multidisciplinary project delivery.
  • A genuine interest in developing as a pavement design specialist within a global engineering consultancy.

If your passion is pavement design and you're ready to work on bigger, more complex infrastructure projects, we want to hear from you.

Build your expertise. Work on infrastructure that matters. Design what keeps Australia moving.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
