Job Summary

The Network Engineering-Senior Engineer is a critical contributor in ensuring that the Telstra network delivers a superior network experience for our consumer and business customers. You do this by drawing on your deep levels of telecommunications network expertise and experience to provide specialist analysis, design, development and deployment in network specific technology domains, including developing platform specific technology roadmaps and making technology investment recommendations.Job Description

The Opportunity

As a Senior Network Engineer – Automation Architect, you’ll be a key contributor to Telstra’s mission to deliver superior network experiences. You’ll collaborate across teams, influence vendor solutions, and lead technology trials and proof-of-concepts. This is your chance to shape automation roadmaps and contribute to Telstra’s strategic pillars while working in Agile environments that maximise efficiency and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy automation and system architecture solutions for Telstra’s network platforms.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Products & Technology, ITaaS, COE Architecture, and Fixed Engineering DevOps.

  • Translate customer and regulatory requirements into realisable architectures.

  • Evaluate and manage vendor technology delivery and performance.

  • Lead strategic design decisions, publish architecture documents, and support product development.

  • Participate in trials and PoCs for automation platforms.

  • Provide input into performance and customer experience monitoring.

About You

You’re a strategic thinker with deep expertise in telecommunications and automation. You bring:

  • 5+ years of experience in system architecture, orchestration workflows, and network technologies.

  • Strong knowledge of Cisco NSO, AMDOCS, TM Forum APIs, and cloud platforms like AWS or Azure.

  • Skills in scripting (Python, Ansible), containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes), and DevOps methodologies.

  • Familiarity with IP/MPLS, Carrier Ethernet, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, IS-IS), and QoS design.

  • Ability to articulate complex technical strategies and influence stakeholders.

  • A passion for innovation, collaboration, and delivering customer-centric solutions.
