- Hybrid Sydney or Melbourne CBD
- Engagement: Annual salary, 12-month fixed term contract
About the role
Avant is continuing to invest in our technology environment and are now embarking on a significant multi-year Technology Modernisation Program focused on reducing technology risk and modernising legacy platforms across the organisation.
We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to join our Technology Modernisation Program and take ownership of a key stream of technology delivery. The program has been established to modernise Avant’s technology environment by reducing our exposure to end-of-life and end-of-support technologies, replacing legacy platforms and retiring unsupported systems.
Working closely with technology teams, business stakeholders and external partners, you will manage technology projects from initiation through to implementation, go-live and transition into business as usual.
This is a great opportunity for a strong, hands-on mid-level Project Manager who enjoys bringing structure and clarity to complex technology delivery, can confidently navigate competing priorities and dependencies, and knows how to keep stakeholders aligned and projects moving.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead technology projects end to end across planning, requirements, design, build, integration, testing, implementation and go-live.
- Develop and manage integrated project plans, schedules, milestones, dependencies and critical paths.
- Manage project scope, budgets, forecasting, risks, issues and change control.
- Coordinate delivery across internal technology teams, business stakeholders and external vendors.
- Manage vendor performance against agreed scope, timelines, cost and quality.
- Plan and coordinate implementation, release and cutover activities, including go-live readiness, hypercare and transition to operational teams.
- Identify and proactively manage delivery risks, resource constraints, competing priorities and cross-project dependencies.
- Provide clear and concise project reporting, including executive and Steering Committee updates.
- Facilitate project governance forums and ensure stakeholders understand key decisions, trade-offs, risks and delivery impacts.
- Translate technical delivery challenges into clear business considerations and recommendations.
- Ensure projects meet Avant’s governance and assurance requirements while continuously improving delivery practices.
Experience required:
- 5+ years’ experience delivering technology projects, ideally within complex enterprise environments.
- Demonstrated experience managing technology projects from initiation through to implementation and handover.
- Strong experience working across multiple internal teams, vendors and external partners.
- Working knowledge of Agile, Waterfall and hybrid delivery methodologies.
- Experience managing project budgets, forecasts, risks, issues, dependencies and governance.
- Familiarity with Microsoft technology environments and tools such as Microsoft 365 and Azure DevOps.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to work across technical teams, business leaders and senior stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills and an ability to turn complex technical issues into clear business decisions.
- Sound commercial judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining momentum.
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Business, Project Management, Information Technology or a related discipline.
- Experience within financial services or insurance, or delivering enterprise platform, integration or data projects, would be highly regarded.
