About The Role

Imagine working closely with many of the world’s largest sports rights holders, brands, agencies, broadcasters, and tourism bodies to help them better understand their fans and maximise commercial success.

Nielsen Sports is a trusted adviser and partner in sports and entertainment consumer research, media evaluation, and data-driven consultancy, helping our clients worldwide to plan, optimise and measure the impact of their initiatives against business objectives. With our expansive suite of products and services, Nielsen Sports is uniquely positioned to provide data-driven insights and intelligence which help drive more effective decision-making for clients.

This role is suitable for someone who is organised, detail orientated, and who enjoys using data to analyse trends and develop insights. Candidates with up to 2-3 years experience in similar roles with media agencies are encouraged to apply. Both Sydney and Melbourne based candidates will be considered.

Qualifications

Role Responsibilities 

 

  • Preparing project specification documents that briefs in all requirements of the project, the stakeholders involved, delivery timelines, etc. which is then used to initiate the project.

  • Collect and source raw data from live sporting events and various television entertainment shows being held and broadcasted in the Australian and New Zealand markets. Data sources are collected on a recurring and frequent basis and includes television, online, print and social media. Brand logos and text mentions of brands, along with important stadia are examples of raw data sources collected from these mediums. 

  • Collaborating and consulting with Client Service teams to understand and interpret client briefs for projects. This includes determining raw data collection methods, the different sources (media types) of data that is needed and what brands the client needs to be analysed.

  • Work with international teams when there is a requirement to source and/or process data from other markets such as Europe and Asia Pacific.

  • Validating raw data that is collected to ensure that it is relevant to the project, is clean and without any missing/extra values or unwanted data before it can be analysed. 

  • Transforming raw data into numerical datasets which are then used for trend analyses. During the transformation stage of preparing the data, anomalies and outliers are identified and treated and the resulting datasets are re-analysed for accuracy. 

  • Identifying and interpreting trends/patterns in processed datasets by making comparisons against historical data with the use of various data visualisation techniques. 

  • Your day-to-day work will require you to utilise various Nielsen-owned analysis tools and apply Nielsen proprietary statistical techniques and methods to calculate media measurement metrics.

  • You will be required to monitor and manage processes, both internal and external, work closely with other Nielsen team members, and interact with clients.

 

Role Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree, preferably with an analytical or numerical background; Economics, Statistics, or Business, Marketing/Market research

  • Strong interest in the business of sports, media, events, and entertainment

  • Understanding of numbers and various levels of statistical analysis, with the ability to interpret and present data, both visually and verbally

  • Demonstrate analytical mindset, problem-solving skills, and strategic thinking

  • Excellent project, time management, and multi-tasking skills, with adaptability and agility to thrive under pressure within a fast-moving industry and a high-energy team

  • Demonstrate balance as a self-starter, working autonomously with ownership of tasks; and a team player, collaborating across divisions and markets

  • Full proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and ability to learn new software

  • Past experience with Q, Arianna or Landsberry & James Fusion and Tableau or PowerBI would be looked upon favourably
