About the Role

Due to an internal promotion, Hastings Deering is seeking a Manager – Risk, Systems & Assurance to join our Health, Safety and Sustainability team. This is a permanent, fulltime position based out of our Head Office in Archerfield.

This pivotal role will provide strategic leadership across Risk and Assurance, Health and Safety Systems, Training and Compliance and Health and Wellbeing Management. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring ongoing compliance with legislative and corporate standards across Hastings Deering and Sime Industrial Australasia, while driving the design, implementation and continuous improvement of frameworks that strengthen our culture of safety, governance and wellbeing.

Reporting to the General Manager – Health, Safety & Sustainability, your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of the Risk Management Framework, including registers, controls and reporting aligned to ISO 9001, 45002,140001
  • Build and embed Critical Risk and Assurance Programs that enhance visibility, compliance and control effectiveness
  • Oversee the Integrated Management System to ensure alignment, consistency and compliance across all HSS functions.
  • Establish and manage a Training Management System to maintain visibility of safety, licence-to-operate and compliance training.
  • Drive the implementation and optimisation of digital systems supporting risk, compliance and performance reporting.
  • Lead the design and delivery of a Layered Assurance Program to monitor legal, corporate and certification requirements.
  • Partner with business leaders to analyse trends and audit outcomes, identifying opportunities for improvement and cultural uplift.
  • Project manage strategic initiatives that strengthen risk governance, system efficiency and business performance.

About You
You will bring the following skills and experience to the role:

  • Tertiary qualifications (preferably Master’s degree) in relevant related discipline
  • 10 years+ experience in a heavy industry, mining or manufacturing environment 
  • 5 years+ experience in a leadership role within a heavy industry, mining or manufacturing environment.
  • 3 years+ experience in managing and delivering projects and business initiatives.
  • Management of audit activity and resulting improvement actions.
  • Previous experience managing EH&S policies and procedures for a multi-geographic diverse organisation (preferably in mining or heavy equipment)
  • Experience in culture change, business improvement practices and HS Risk management and reporting
  • Understanding of critical control-centered assurance programs
  • Extensive experience in managing and leading continuous improvement of management systems
