Position Summary
Finance manager oversees the operation of Project accounting and audit/tax compliance. This role will be responsible for day-to-day accounting and tax transactions, as well as monthly financial reporting activities.
The position is often consulted by and works in conjunction with the investment, commercial, asset management, legal teams and Group accounting team to address accounting/tax concerns arising from both existing and potential projects. Additionally, more than 50 entities issue local audited financial statements involving different auditors in line with TK agreements. The team handles tax compliance, including income tax, business tax, consumption tax, depreciable asset tax, and withholding tax on distribution. The Manager's responsibilities include managing internal and external accounting/tax reporting compliance by effectively communicating with auditors, tax preparers, internal departments, and the Singapore head office.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Reporting: Timely and accurate financial reporting to HQ/Investors
- Coach, guide and review the work of the outsourced book-keeping team to ensure the integrity and timeliness of financial reporting in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (“IFRS”), Group Accounting Policies and Japan GAAP (“JGAAP”). 
- Authorize of journal entries. 
- Oversee end-to-end finance operations of assigned entities. 
- Liaise with external auditors for annual audits and interim review. 
- Review output of key reporting internal controls including: 
- Inter-company balances reconciliations 
- Schedules/ sub-account to general ledger reconciliations 
- Inventory reconciliations 
- Bank reconciliations 
- Project finance reconciliations 
- Debtors/ vendors reconciliation 
- Inter-company loans and interest management 
- In consultation with Senior Manager, propose and recommend accounting policy choice and accounting estimates. 
- Management review controls-Analytical review of monthly financial results at entity level with sound variance analysis. 
- Manage monthly/quarterly financial reports to fund investors and provide collaborative support for fund management in partnership with the investment team. 
- Perform going concern and deferred tax assessment 
2. Tax: Timely completion of tax filing and payments
- Prepare and/ or review all tax returns incl consumption tax, corporate income tax, transfer pricing ensuring accuracy and timeliness. 
- Collaborate with other functions (e.g. legal, operations) to integrate tax considerations into business planning. 
- Analytical review of effective tax rate of the country and highlight risk areas. 
- Review business agreements (e.g. service agreements, TK agreements ) and provide tax advice to safeguard the company’s interest. 
3. Business partnering: Leverage financial expertise to support decision-making, drive performance improvements, and achieve organizational success.
- Partner with the Sr. Manager to provide accounting and tax insights to other division and analysis to guide strategic decision-making. 
- Work with FP&A team on financial planning, budgeting, and performance monitoring to achieve EBITDA targets. 
4. Process: Enhance organizational efficiency and risk management
- Coordinate with the investment team to ensure a handover process takes place. 
- Develop accounting questionnaires for the Investment Team prior to any handover. 
- Establish finance policies and procedures. 
- Address risks associated with accounting processes, such as fraud, errors, and compliance issues. 
5. Value creation: Time and cost optimization
- Identify, develop and implement process improvements initiatives including process improvements, system automation and cost reduction initiatives. 
6. Attend to ad-hoc reporting request from Head of Finance, Japan and Senior Manager, Finance
Qualifications / Experience / Knowledge Required
Essential for this role
- University with accounting degree 
- At least 7 years’ experience in accounting 
- JGAAP, IFRS and J-Tax 
- Team-player 
- Fluent in English and Japanese language 
Good to have
- CPA 
- Audit experience 
- Renewable Energy industry experience 
- Fund, SPC accounting, TK-GK scheme 
- Working in international environment
