About this role
Grant Thornton Australia is looking for a Manager, Data Analytics to join our Financial Advisory team in Melbourne.
This is a strategic growth appointment: you will be the first on the ground in Melbourne, building local presence and capability to support a rapidly growing analytics team. You’ll work with internal stakeholders (deal teams, partners and other service lines) and external clients to translate business problems into actionable data / AI projects, deliver high‑quality solutions, and help shape our analytics footprint in Victoria.
This role suits an intellectually curious individual with a ‘data‑centric’ mindset: someone with strong critical thinking skills, who understands the power of asking the right questions, and can tailor their message to resonate with different audiences.
Key responsibilities
Act as the founding Melbourne team member for Data Analytics, building local relationships and pipeline to accelerate team growth
Collaborate with internal teams and external clients to understand business requirements and translate them into scoped analytics projects with clear outcomes
Identify data sources, gather relevant information, and perform data extraction, transformation and loading (ETL / ELT)
Conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA) to uncover patterns, trends and anomalies that inform decision‑making
Develop and maintain data models, dashboards and reports using tools such as Power BI, SQL, Python, Databricks and Alteryx
Lead Agile delivery cadences (backlog, sprint planning, stand‑ups, reviews) and manage work in Azure DevOps (Boards, Repos, Pipelines), including code reviews and QA checks
Provide actionable insights and recommendations based on data findings, and present clear narratives for both technical and non‑technical audiences
Mentor and coach junior analysts as the Melbourne team scales, fostering a culture of quality, reuse and continuous improvement
Skills and experience
Required
Significant experience as a Data Analyst or Analytics Consultant, preferably in a professional services environment, with comfort serving both internal stakeholders and external clients
Strong technical skills in SQL and Python, with experience across Databricks / Spark and Power BI; familiarity with Alteryx (or similar) is a plus
Demonstrated delivery leadership using Agile ways of working and Azure DevOps
Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams, adapting communication for technical and non‑technical stakeholders
Proven ability to lead projects and mentor team members, setting clear standards and uplifting capability
Desirable
Exposure to dbt, Microsoft Fabric / ADF, data product thinking, or analytics in a financial advisory / transactions context
If you are interested in this role but don’t feel that you match every single one of our requirements, we would still love to hear from you and explore the unique skillset and attributes that you can bring to the team.
