You will provide legal and compliance support to the Ray White Group and their key executives and all facets of the businesses which form part of the Group. You will minimise disruption to businesses due to legal and compliance issues, assist businesses in complying with their broad legal obligations and maximise returns from business by leveraging sound legal and compliance practices.  

Reporting directly to the General Counsel, you will be responsible for providing strategic, commercial and solutions-based advice and transactional legal support services to senior management, other stakeholders and various entities in the Ray White Group. You will also be tasked with leading the group’s regulatory engagement strategy through the provision of expert, risk-focussed legal advice and matter management and will control the contract management process.  
 

Duties and Responsibilities
  • All aspects of the legal and compliance functions within the Ray White Group and any related  entities.
  • Provide expert and strategic legal advice to the entire business on all matters, including corporate structures and franchising law issues
  • Draft, review and negotiate contracts for all areas of the business that minimize risks and maximize legal rights but are appropriate for the commercial arrangements, handle due diligence and control the contract management process for the group
  • Advising, reporting on and taking carriage of significant regulatory issues and developing appropriate risk mitigation strategies, policies and processes
  • Provide ongoing in-house legal compliance training and information updates to the business
  • Advise on disputes, manage all litigation matters for the business and liaise with and instruct external counsel as required across jurisdictions
  • Negotiate and draft originating and amending documents and oversee litigation
  • Trademark protection and management of disputes
  • Manage the legal aspects of employment related matters
  • Design and implement or manage compliance programs, policies and standards as required
  • Provide anti bribery, competition, privacy and consumer law advice and other training
  • Assist in the provision of advice on commercial disputes, and be the point of contact for smaller disputes
  • Draft and negotiate promotional, talent and other advertising and marketing contracts and materials
  • Advise on insurance renewal and related aspects of insurance
  • Operate with high degree of professional ethics and integrity and gravitas
  • Anticipate legal issues or risks and “see around the corner”
  • Help the businesses address legal problems as and when they arise
  • Set internal governance policies and manage the impact of external factors
  • Evaluate and weigh multiple inputs and impacts of any decision or course of action, anticipate issues and estimate risks strategically
  • Identify proactive solutions that will eliminate or mitigate risks
  • Create associations of trust and respect with key stakeholders
  • Deal with external parties (franchisees, regulators, external counsel)
  • Remain abreast of legislative changes and developments
  • Undertake any other duties within your capabilities as may be reasonably required.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and  Experience
  • A legal qualification, including current practicing certificate
  • A minimum of 2 to 4 years post qualification experience
  • Excellent analytical, communication and negotiation skills with the ability to build lasting relationships across large and varied stakeholder groups
  • Commercially literate and demonstrated experience in leading responses to complex regulatory and legal investigations and proceedings
  • Highly proactive and capable of working independently
  • Influencing and people management skills
  • Ability to work independently and juggle and prioritise multiple priorities
  • Strong organisational, communication and program management skills
