Build your career and Australia’s future.
Not many people can say they are working on building Australia’s future. With us you’ll be doing just that, leaving a legacy for all Australians. Plus, there’s equal employment, great training, and true flexible working arrangements.
We have an exciting opportunity at nbn for a Legal Counsel. This role will report to the General Counsel – Network Infrastructure and Operations. This role is part of the Networks, Operations, Technology and Security Legal team.
A bit about your role
As a Legal Counsel, you will play a key role in supporting the legal needs of nbn’s Networks and Operations teams. You will provide expert legal advice across a broad range of commercial matters, with a particular focus on network infrastructure contracts, delivery partner contracts, and general commercial contracting (e.g. technology, managed service providers, corporate, etc). Your work will help ensure compliance, manage legal risk, and enable strategic decision-making that supports nbn’s purpose of lifting the digital capability of Australia.
In this role, you will be a trusted advisor to the business, contributing to negotiations, drafting and reviewing contracts, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to deliver commercially sound outcomes. You will also work closely with legal peers across other portfolios, supporting cross-functional initiatives and contributing to a cohesive and responsive legal team.
A bit about you
You are a commercially minded legal professional with a strong foundation in contract law. You have at least 4 – 5 years’ post-qualification experience, ideally gained in a reputable law firm and complemented by in-house exposure. You bring a practical, solutions-focused approach to your work and are confident navigating complex agreements, providing clear and considered advice, and supporting negotiations with care and precision.
Your experience may span a range of industries, but you are particularly comfortable working in regulated, infrastructure, or technology-driven environments. You thrive in a team that values purpose and partnership, and you bring a calm, thoughtful presence to fast-paced and evolving challenges. If you’re looking to contribute your legal expertise to a purpose-led organisation making a real impact across Australia, we’d love to hear from you.
