Company Description

At Experian we are looking to establish a new department of Legal Counsel reporting into the Legal Function. Experian has a wide range of products and services that it provides to numerous corporate customers across several industry verticals including financial services, banking, pensions, retail, travel, utilities, telecoms and many more.

This position is responsible for drafting, negotiating and advising on commercial agreements, strategic projects and new product launches. The role is responsible for working at all levels of the organisation to resolve a broad range of commercial and regulatory issues in ways that are practical, commercially focused and future thinking. Data, tech, fintech, AI and associated technologies are key subject matters in this role. The position will also deal with other matters sent to the legal team including IP, regulatory issues, M&A, corporate office, HR etc and advise on the impact of new legislation on current and future products and solutions (e.g consumer data right).

Job Description

What you'll be doing

  • Drafting and negotiating data and technology related commercial agreements including:
  • Data and/or software licensing, maintenance and support, consulting and/or professional services agreements
  • Master services/Framework Agreements
  • Partner agreements – contracts with resellers, referrers and other intermediaries
  • Various other commercial agreements that may arise with clients (and occasionally suppliers or group companies)
  • Assisting product and legal teams to prepare new contract templates for new products and propositions along with product special terms and conditions.
  • Working with legal teams to help make changes to standard terms and conditions.
  • Ensuring that deals are consistent with Experian policies as set out in the Legal "play book" and any exceptions are escalated for approval at the appropriate level
  • Working with legal department helping to reinforce policies and procedures
  • Supporting and providing advice the practical implementation of contracts into contract automation/review systems/processes.
  • Assist with strategic projects, M&A activities, joint ventures, marketing campaigns and new product launches.
  • Support regulatory engagement and provide legal input into the risk assessment and compliance functions.
  • Deliver relevant training to business units.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of well-prepared precedents and implement legal technology to manage and deliver efficient legal service.

Qualifications

More about you

  • Experience of drafting, negotiating and advising on commercial contracts ideally including data and technology related agreements.
  • These roles are suitable for people with or without a legal qualification as you will be working alongside qualified lawyers.
  • As this is a new department with Experian ANZ, we are looking for people with varying levels of experience.
  • Admitted to practice as a legal practitioner, holding a current practicing certificate.
  • 3+ years post admission experience, either in-house or private practice.
