We are looking for a part-time Legal Assistant (AI Automation) to join our Legal Department based in Melbourne or Sydney, Australia three days per week.

The Legal Department supports Franklin Templeton’s Australia, Japan and Asia businesses through practical legal, regulatory and governance advice. The team partners closely with senior lawyers and business stakeholders to improve processes, manage documentation and support cross-border initiatives. This role offers hands-on exposure to legal operations, artificial intelligence tools and workflow improvement within a global asset management environment.

How you will add value?

Core Responsibilities:

  • Review legal workflows and identify automation opportunities

  • Design artificial intelligence-enabled solutions for routine tasks

  • Build prompt libraries and standard operating procedures

  • Improve document templates, precedents and knowledge systems

Strategic Responsibilities:

  • Test tools including Copilot, ChatGPT and Claude

  • Support contract review, due diligence and regulatory tracking

  • Assess new tools and recommend adoption opportunities

  • Monitor regulatory developments and prepare concise updates

Team & Collaboration:

  • Support research, drafting and internal legal queries

  • Prepare filings, board materials and committee papers

  • Assist the legal team on general administrative tasks as required

  • Contribute to global projects and cross-border collaboration

  • Train colleagues on tools, agents and workflows

What will help you be successful in this role?

Experience, Education & Certifications:

  • Degree in a relevant discipline, such as law, commerce, technology or a related field

  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in a finance services, legal or professional services environment

Technical Skills:

  • Familiarity with Copilot, ChatGPT or Claude

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

  • Exposure to automation tools is advantageous

Soft Skills:

  • Analytical, curious and comfortable experimenting with new tools

  • Detail-oriented, structured and able to manage priorities independently

  • Collaborative communicator who can support senior lawyers effectively

  • Fluent English language skills
