Location: (including hybrid): Melbourne, Australia
Team: User Experience
Reporting To: Head of User Experience
Role open date: 16th of October, 2025
Closing date for applications: 30th of October
Kaluza reimagines energy to bring net-zero within everyone’s reach. The Kaluza Platform enables energy utilities to unlock the full value of a radically changing energy system and propel us to a future where renewable energy is sustainable, affordable and accessible for all.
From automating and simplifying core operations including billing to create a lower-cost, higher-engagement experience, to optimising energy usage across smart devices in the home, we turn tough challenges into win-win-win outcomes for customers, suppliers and the energy system.
We champion a flexible, hybrid work approach and we find that teams often benefit from coming together in the office at least 2-3 days a week to foster connection and accelerate progress.
Outside of these collaborative opportunities, we aim to be as flexible as possible to balance work with life. As a company we come together annually for our conference and end of year celebrations!
Our goal is to build a self-sufficient and empowered team here on the ground in Australia. We’re well on our way, but until we get there we still have some reliances on our UK team. Being comfortable working flexibly for a portion of your working week to cover time zones is required.
Where in the world of Kaluza will I be working?
You'll join Kaluza's growing Australia team, working alongside a talented mix of Product Managers, Engineers, and Delivery experts. You'll also be a vital member of our global User Experience Design team, with colleagues based in Europe. You'll be working on Kaluza’s Energy Retail platform, a SaaS solution that empowers energy retailers globally to revolutionise their core operations and accelerate their decarbonisation efforts.
What will I be doing?
This is a player-coach role where you'll lead the design and delivery of user experiences that meet the needs of our retail energy clients in Australia, while also contributing to global product design decisions.
- UX strategy and execution: You'll drive the UX design and research roadmap for our Australia programme, leading delivery of client-specific initiatives.
- You'll partner with peers in Product, Engineering, Data and other functions to ensure user needs are at the forefront of decision-making. You're comfortable making difficult trade-offs and adapting plans at speed to ensure objectives are met.
- As a People Leader: You'll manage our small Melbourne-based team of UXers, actively fostering a culture of collaboration, high-performance and engagement. You'll also build a strong connection with our global UX teams in Europe, reporting directly to our Head of UX in the UK.
- As a hands-on practitioner: You're prepared to get into the details as an individual contributor, stepping in to help cross-functional product teams solve urgent and important problems.
- Achieve commercial impact: You can actively engage with external stakeholders through workshops, showcases and pre-sales activities, representing the UX perspective to prospective clients across the APAC region.
- Drive impact through data insights: You'll draw actionable insights from platform analytics and users to help steer product design decisions where needed.
- Skillfully balance local delivery and global scalability: making business-driven trade-offs, driving standardisation and efficiency, aligning (and improving) our Design System and Journey Management processes.
About You
Ideally you’ll have:
- Experience leading, coaching and managing a team of designers, helping them grow and deliver
- Extensive applied and hands-on experience in our core UX skills of Product Design, User Research and Service Design
- Strong relationship-building and influencing skills with both internal teams and external commercial clients. You'll be comfortable engaging with stakeholders through workshops, meetings and presentations.
- Expert-level proficiency in core UX tools like Figma, Miro, Dovetail, and Smaply. You also have a proven ability to communicate through high-standard written documentation, presentations and frameworks.
- An understanding of how UX differentiates our product offering from competitors and helps win new clients – B2B and SaaS enterprise experience is important
- Knowledge of, or a real curiosity to learn, the nuances of the Australian energy market.
- Comfortable working across Australia / UK time zones as needed.
