This role is ideal for someone with profound experience in API development, Azure cloud services, and event-driven architecture, who also enjoys shaping team practices and fostering a collaborative culture.

Eligibility:

This position is open only to Australian residents or those with a valid work visa. Applicants who do not meet this criteria will not be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable backend solutions using .NET Core and Azure Functions

  • Experience in large, legacy-heavy orgs.

  • Someone who has migrated or modernized systems incrementally.

  • Excellent communication—someone who explains trade-offs well.

  • Has worked cross-functionally with the product/design/dev/test team.

  • Architect and integrate event-driven systems using Azure Event Grid, Service Bus, and API Management

  • Oversee CI/CD processes using Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions

  • Guide microservices development, ensuring clean architecture and service boundaries

  • Collaborate across teams, including frontend, product, and DevOps, to ensure seamless delivery

  • Mentor junior consultants and contribute to a positive, high-performing team environment

Core Technical Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience with .NET Core (6 or 8), C#, and Microservices using Azure Functions, Service Bus, APIM, and App Services

  • Practical experience with Azure DevOps Pipelines, ARM/Bicep, and Infrastructure-as-Code

  • Solid understanding of Domain-Driven Design (DDD), Event-driven architecture, CQRS, and RESTful API versioning

  • Strong debugging skills, especially across distributed systems

  • Strong expertise in .NET Core and Azure Functions

  • Proven experience with Azure Event Grid, Service Bus, and API Management

  • Solid knowledge of CI/CD using Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions

  • Strong Git practices and code review culture

Preferred Experience

  • Background in working with large-scale enterprise systems

  • Full stack knowledge (bonus but not essential)

  • Experience in environments with a strong customer or pricing focus

  • Track record of contributing to team culture and mentoring others

Ideal Profile

  • Confident technical leader with hands-on skills

  • Strong communicator who thrives in collaborative environments

  • Able to balance technical excellence with practical delivery

  • Ready to hit the ground running in a fast-moving team

  • Ability to communicate complex solutions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Demonstrated empathy for legacy systems and ability to work in complex, hybrid environments without blame or judgment

  • Experience working in high-autonomy roles, making technical trade-offs aligned to business constraints

  • Comfortable leading technical discussions, challenging ideas diplomatically, and taking ownership of delivery

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
