We have an exceptional opportunity for a commercial and driven Junior Category Manager to join our Purchasing team! We're looking for an outcomes focused Junior Category Manager to continue curating our product offering, ensuring our customers benefit from the trending and most in-demand products in the market.


Reporting to the Director of Purchasing, this role will suit an emerging Category Manager, enabling direct ownership of a category portfolio, developing exciting new products, partnering with suppliers and keeping on top of market trends to provide our customers with high quality products at unbeatable value.

In this role you'll be responsible for:

  • Identifying commercial opportunities for expansion of category including sourcing and developing new products
  • Engaging and sourcing key suppliers, locally and internationally, in World's best brand and Kogan.com's Exclusive Brands
  • Actively managing daily category operations including; planning and promotional activity, inventory management, shipping and logistics to ensure revenue and profit targets are exceeded every month
  • Managing and engaging with key stakeholders, internally and externally, to build effective working relationships and achieve outcomes
  • Maximising profitability of all products, through a depth of understanding of your category and the market
  • Being proactive, innovative and striving to continually develop your category for our customers
  • Actively negotiating the best possible trading terms and prices
  • Drive and control price changes across our different sales channels, and contribute towards pricing reviews when required
  • Ensuring timely introduction of new products, efficient management of current and future inventory and ensuring timely fulfilment of customer demand
  • Actively manage and monitor inventory levels to achieve your category’s goals and KPIs. This includes forward forecasting, planning promotional activity and actively reacting to market conditions.
  • Partnering with the Marketing & Promotions teams to ensure product listings are well merchandised and discoverable to support the customer journey Monitoring performance and completing range reviews across your category and taking action where necessary

To be successful in this role, you should be:

  • University Degree qualified in a relevant field (Commerce, Business, Engineering, Supply Chain or similar)
  • Experienced with Category ownership, at either an Assistant or Junior Category Manager level, or have supported a Category Manager with exposure / ownership of a product range and ready to step up to have full category ownership. Experience withing an eCommerce, Retail or FMCG environment and / or Tech & Electronics categories will be highly regarded
  • Comfortable building and maintaining effective relationships, through exceptional communication and engagement
  • Highly analytical and possess commercial nous, being able to recognise opportunity and make quick decisions for the best commercial outcomes, so that we can offer market-leading pricing to our customers.
  • Comfortable working within a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Being agile and adaptable is key to success!
  • A whiz with Microsoft Excel (we’re talking VLOOKUP and pivot tables, not SUM and AVERAGE - and we will test your capabilities).
  • Tech savvy and able to use various IT and cloud-based tools to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Ready to challenge, be challenged, and work within our highly disruptive business model.
