The opportunity
This is an exceptional opportunity for an early-career Actuarial professional to join one of Australia’s leading insurers in the role of Junior Actuarial Analyst, working across short and long-tail products within the NZ and Pacific portfolios. Join the dynamic Actuarial team at QBE, where you'll gain broad exposure to the full reserving process and develop a strong understanding of the frameworks that underpin actuarial valuation, reporting and regulatory obligations.
About QBE
At QBE, we get to the heart of what matters for our customers. And we do it all with a human touch.
We’re an international insurer with more than 13,000 people working across 26 countries – which means we’re big enough for your ambitions, yet small enough for you to make a real impact. It’s an exciting time. We’re building momentum towards our vision to become the most consistent and innovative risk partner.
What if you could have a positive impact – at work and in the world? As part of the QBE team, you’ll get to spend every day working with people who are passionate, talented and kind.
Your new role
As a Junior Actuarial Analyst your key responsibilities will include;
- Support the Actuarial Senior Manager to perform end-to-end reserving work for various products
- Perform monthly BAU tasks and other actuarial analysis as required
- Be the ‘go-to person’ for data analysis and support to senior Actuarial professionals, enabling the team to provide meaningful insights to the business
- Continuously seek process improvement and be part of the QBE Actuarial modernisation journey
- Be involved in the development of a new automated reserving model, with the opportunity to apply and grow your technical skills in SQL and VBA.
About you
To be successful in this role you will have;
- Tertiary qualification in actuarial studies, mathematics, statistics or equivalent relevant disciplines
- A keen interest in expanding on your Actuarial knowledge and looking to take the next step in your career with a leading global insurer known for providing career development and progression opportunities
- Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills and an ability to generate outside of the box creative solutions rather than following precedence
- Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and can utilise these to liaise with stakeholders at varying levels across the business to influence best practice outcomes
- While not essential, familiarity with SQL, VBA and Python would be advantageous
