About us:

At the World Mosquito Program (WMP), we are on a mission to eliminate mosquito-borne diseases like dengue, Zika, yellow fever, and chikungunya.

Using naturally occurring Wolbachia bacteria, our safe, self-sustaining, non-GMO solution is delivering game-changing global health results:

  • 77% reduction in dengue incidence in randomised controlled trials in Indonesia.
  • Dengue effectively eliminated as a public health concern in Northern Queensland after a decade of deployment.
  • 16+ million people protected across 15 countries, averting 1.5M dengue cases and saving an estimated US$455 million in healthcare costs.
  • World's largest Wolbachia biofactory opened in Curitiba, Brazil to power our next phase of rapid global expansion.

Behind every breakthrough is a global infrastructure powered by technology. We are seeking a proactive, collaborative IT Operations Officer to join our team in Melbourne, Australia and keep our mission moving forward!

The Opportunity: Why Your Role Matters

As WMP expands into new regions, reliable, secure, and seamless technology is vital to our success. In this role, you won't just handle tickets—you will be the central engine powering our tech ecosystem across Australia, France, LATAM, and beyond.

Reporting directly to the Director, Digital Technology and Information Management, you’ll bridge the gap between internal global staff, external vendors, and institutional IT partners, while actively driving operational maturity, cybersecurity, and process automation.

What you will be doing:

1. Global Operational & User Support

  • Direct day-to-day IT operations for global offices (Australia, France) and remote staff across EU, LATAM, AFRICA and ASIA
  • Manage end-to-end triage for helpdesk requests, software/data access, account administration, and staff onboarding/offboarding.
  • Act as the key liaison between WMP staff, external helpdesk vendors, software suppliers, and central IT/cybersecurity teams.

2. Security, Compliance & Digital Transformation

  • Support critical cybersecurity routines: conduct access reviews, enhance SSO and provisioning, coordinate security reviews, and manage phishing awareness and remediation.
  • Support operational coordination for major digital transformation projects across finance (ERP), marketing, business development (CRM), and manufacturing (MES) systems.

3. Operations, Procurement & Continuous Improvement

  • Manage software license administration, track subscription renewals, handle purchase orders, and optimize SaaS spend.
  • Build internal user guides, clear request pathways, and knowledge base materials to drive staff self-service.
  • Identify automation and process improvement opportunities to streamline workflows and reduce operational friction.

What we are looking for:

  • Background: A degree in IT, Information Systems, Business Systems (or equivalent) OR extensive experience in IT operations, service coordination, or tech operations support.
  • Technical Breadth: Proven experience managing business systems, user access, and tools (e.g., Google Workspace, CRM, ERP, project management, and AI productivity tools).
  • Distributed Team & Security Experience: Experience supporting cybersecurity, access management, and vendor coordination across distributed or international contexts.
  • Strong Communication: Ability to translate technical terms into clear, actionable guidance for cross-cultural teams with varying technical confidence.
  • Adaptability & Drive: High comfort with context-switching in a fast-paced environment, strong problem-solving skills, and the initiative to work independently.

Location, Working Arrangements & Eligibility

  • Location: Based in Clayton, Melbourne with a flexible hybrid working model.
  • Global Collaboration: As a global organisation, candidates will need to demonstrate flexibility to accommodate occasional meetings outside standard Melbourne business hours.
  • Visa Status: Candidates must possess valid, unrestricted work authorization for Australia at the time of application. WMP cannot provide sponsorship for this fixed-term position.

Why Join WMP?

At WMP, your work contributes directly to improving health outcomes for communities around the world.

You will join a passionate, purpose-driven team working at the forefront of global public health innovation. We offer an environment where collaboration, expertise, accountability, and impact are valued, and where talented people have the opportunity to help shape the future of a growing international organisation.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
