Job DescriptionThe IT Application Systems Administrator is responsible for the strategic administration, support, optimisation, and governance of enterprise application environments across large-scale ICT programs. The role ensures business-critical applications remain secure, stable, resilient, and aligned with organisational technology standards, operational requirements, and service delivery objectives.
The position operates across complex multi-environment platforms and works collaboratively with infrastructure teams, architects, developers, vendors, operational support teams, and business stakeholders to maintain and improve application performance and service availability. The role provides authoritative technical advice on application lifecycle management, environment strategy, deployment coordination, operational support, and system enhancement activities.
The IT Application Systems Administrator also contributes to operational governance, risk management, incident resolution, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure enterprise systems can effectively support evolving business and technology needs. The role requires strong operational leadership, stakeholder engagement capability, and the ability to manage competing priorities across large and complex ICT environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the administration and operational management of enterprise applications across development, test, staging, and production environments.
- Manage application deployments, upgrades, patches, and environment configurations.
- Provide strategic guidance on application management, support models, and operational improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate troubleshooting and resolution of complex application and environment issues.
- Collaborate with delivery teams, vendors, infrastructure teams, and support functions to maintain operational stability.
- Monitor application performance, availability, reliability, and operational health.
- Ensure systems comply with organisational governance, security, and operational standards.
- Develop and maintain operational procedures, support documentation, and environment management processes.
- Evaluate new technologies, tools, and enhancement opportunities for enterprise applications.
- Identify operational risks and implement mitigation strategies to minimise service disruption.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across operational support and application management practices.
- Support change management, release management, and environment governance activities.
- Mentor operational support staff and contribute to capability uplift across support teams.
- Provides strategic operational leadership and technical governance.
- Influences organisational standards, support models, and operational frameworks.
- Leads complex operational and application management initiatives.
- Operates with significant autonomy and accountability.
- Contributes to enterprise capability uplift and continuous improvement.
- Extensive experience managing enterprise application environments.
- Strong understanding of operational governance, ITIL, and support processes.
- Experience supporting large-scale ICT delivery and operational programs.
- Strong troubleshooting and stakeholder engagement capability.
- Experience with environment management, deployments, and operational resilience.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and documentation skills.
- Previous experience of working within Federal Government or on Federal government projects
- Already having Baseline Security Clearance or able to obtain clearance
