About the Team

You’ll join a team where people work with integrity, inclusion, innovation, agility, collaboration and commitment. In practice, that means sharing ownership, solving complex problems together and staying connected to the customer context, the purpose behind the work and how each role contributes to meaningful outcomes.

Mission Software Systems (MSS) brings together expertise across intelligence, software, and cloud to deliver end-to-end capability supporting the full intelligence lifecycle, from planning through to dissemination and feedback. The team fosters a culture of innovation, leveraging modern engineering practices and shared infrastructure to rapidly build, test, and deploy software solutions across a range of environments, including cloud. MSS also plays a key role in advancing technology modernisation within Government, delivering scalable and adaptable solutions for complex enterprise challenges.

The Opportunity

As an ICT Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, deployment and sustainment of complex ICT infrastructure supporting critical programs and operational capabilities. Working within a collaborative Agile environment, you will contribute to the delivery of secure, reliable and scalable technology solutions, ensuring infrastructure and systems are fit for purpose and aligned to evolving customer needs.

In this role, you will:

  • Design, build and maintain complex technology networks and ICT systems, including the installation and configuration of physical and virtual hardware, software and portable devices.
  • Deploy and integrate infrastructure components, including servers, networking equipment and rack-based solutions, while producing and maintaining accurate network, rack and infrastructure documentation.
  • Implement cyber security requirements across infrastructure environments, applying security hardening, ISM controls, firmware updates, patch management and security audit activities to ensure compliance and system resilience.
  • Contribute to Agile delivery practices by supporting adaptive planning, user story development and estimation activities, while collaborating closely with engineering teams, stakeholders and customers to deliver capability outcomes.

About You

You are an experienced ICT Engineer with a passion for delivering secure and reliable technology solutions. You enjoy working across diverse infrastructure environments and have the ability to balance technical expertise with effective stakeholder engagement, documentation and continuous improvement practices.

Essential:

  • Experience designing, building and supporting complex ICT infrastructure, networks and systems.
  • Experience installing, configuring and managing physical and virtual hardware and software environments.
  • Capability in the build, deployment and support of portable devices and enterprise technology platforms.
  • Experience implementing infrastructure-level cyber security controls, including security hardening, patch management and ISM compliance requirements across network and switching environments.
  • Knowledge of security principles and the ability to apply security-by-design approaches to ICT solutions.
  • Experience performing firmware updates, security audits and system maintenance activities.
  • Ability to create and maintain technical documentation including network diagrams, rack layouts, infrastructure designs and deployment documentation.
  • Experience using diagramming and design tools such as Microsoft Visio or similar platforms.
  • Experience working within Agile delivery programs, including adaptive planning, user story development and story point estimation.
  • Experience using or supporting technologies such as Red Hat Linux, SharePoint and DOORS.
  • Experience with hardware installation activities, including the build, integration and installation of equipment racks.

Advantageous:

  • Experience with EPM document structures and CRUD (Create, Read, Update and Delete) operations.
  • Experience supporting highly secure or mission-critical ICT environments.
  • Familiarity with systems integration, infrastructure modernisation and complex technology refresh activities.
  • Experience working across multidisciplinary engineering teams delivering large-scale technology programs.

This role does require the successful applicant to be an Australian Citizen and hold an NV-1 security clearance.

If this role interests you, we encourage you to apply. We value different experiences and are interested in the capability and potential you could bring.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
