This is an opportunity to join the Octopus Australia team in our Melbourne office. The successful applicant will be able to join the Octopus Australia team on their mission to accelerate Australia's transition to a future powered by renewable energy.

You will play a key role in delivering professional HR support across the full employee lifecycle, working closely with and reporting to the HR Manager to manage day-to-day operations and contribute to key people initiatives aligned with Australian workplace laws and practices. This generalist position offers exposure to a wide range of HR activities, making it ideal for someone looking to build broad experience within a small, hands-on team.

Established in 2018, Octopus Australia is a dynamic multi-disciplinary team of over 60 highly skilled people which spans the expertise required to realise and operate a renewable energy and storage portfolio.

We have an existing multi‑GW portfolio of operating and development assets, including utility‑scale solar, wind and battery storage facilities across the country. We are continuing to grow to create a long‑term business that can deliver a firmed energy product to meet the evolving needs of Australia’s energy future.

Job Description

  • Take ownership of the recruitment journey - this is your chance to build or streamline processes as you manage everything from recruitment logistics and pre-employment checks to onboarding and probation.
  • Support and enhance end-to-end employee lifecycle processes, including onboarding, changes to employment, and offboarding, always looking for ways to improve and innovate.
  • Contribute to operational HR functions such as probation check-ins, leave tracking and reporting, and post-recruitment campaign analysis.
  • Advise managers and employees on HR policies, procedures, and basic employee relations matters.
  • Maintain and update HR systems, producing regular reports (e.g. absence, turnover, recruitment metrics) to inform decision-making.
  • Support learning and development activities and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Ensure consistent application of HR policies and assist in reviewing or updating them.
  • Support due diligence requests by gathering and preparing employee data and documentation as required.
  • Get involved in key HR projects - from process improvement initiatives to supporting the rollout of new HR technology or engagement programs.

Qualifications

Ideally, you will have some or all of the following qualifications, skills and experiences:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in HR operations or an HR Advisor role.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Law or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of the Fair Work Act, National Employment Standards (NES), and modern awards.
  • Strong attention to detail and discretion when handling confidential information.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS platforms.
