Where the team fits in

You’ll be leading our Tech Learning & Development squad, within the Global Technology group. Our purpose is to unlock our tech community’s unlimited potential. As a small but mighty team we scale our impact through nurturing our learning culture, curating and delivering foundational knowledge, operating learning platforms, and acting as learning advisors. Our learners (approximately 800+) are based globally with a strong existing footprint in Australia and an expanding footprint in Gurugram, India as part of REA Cyber City.

Working closely with the Executive Manager, Architecture and Tech Learning & Development as well as the broader tech community, this position plays an essential role in the successful design, development, and operations of our tech learning & development function. This function spans engaging through events and sponsorships, inhouse learning programs, supporting learning communities, and leveraging partners.

This role will also be part of a federated learning community across REA, contributing to common learning initiatives and frameworks as well as owning the School of Tech within REA University. Maintaining close alignment and shared ownership of REA’s learning strategy is part of this role.

What the role is all about

  • Provide people leadership for Tech L&D team members including Tech L&D Specialists and a Coordinator.
  • Shape and execute a comprehensive Tech Learning & Development strategy aligned with organisational goals and our tech strategy.
  • Take the lead (in collaboration with engineering management) to identify skill gaps and areas for improvement to drive continuous learning and upskilling within the tech community across multiple geographies.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of learning and development programs, utilizing data and feedback to refine and improve future initiatives.
  • Develop and oversee our portfolio of in-house, curated, and external training content, using data to refine and improve.
  • Provide agile delivery leadership for the squad, ensuring day to day delivery of our objectives.
  • Manage the learning & development budget, ensuring effective allocation to maximize impact and ROI.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and knowledge-sharing.
  • Represent technology in the federated learning community including meeting and workshop participation to support enterprise learning priorities.
  • Act as a point of contact for Tech related sponsorships and events, including hosting meetups at the REA offices, managing our presence at external tech conferences and managing relationships with sponsored organisations and other learning providers

Who we’re looking for

You are a seasoned learning professional with previous experience leading a Learning & Development team who is deeply committed to progressive learning approaches. You can think innovatively to develop strategies and are comfortable working with a variety of stakeholders and delivering impactful outcomes.

You love technology and the fast-paced learning that comes with it. You have a proven track record in designing, developing, and implementing strategies relating to digital learning either within or for a digital business. You’re actively curious about emerging tech trends and, as a fast learner, can adapt and thrive in an evolving environment.

Your communication style is clear and engaging. You’re great at asking questions to understand and anticipate needs. You’re friendly, approachable and have good relationship management skills.

You are humanistic and kind, committed to personal growth and growing those around you.

What would be desirable

  • Experience with Learning Experience Platforms and Learning Providers (e.g. Pluralsight, LinkedIn Learning)
  • Formal qualifications in L&D (e.g. Cert IV in Workplace Training & Assessment) or software engineering
  • At least 4+ years in managerial roles focused on leading a Learning & Development team
  • Experience in working with external providers/partners
  • Training development and facilitation experience
