The role with us
As the Group Indirect Tax Manager reporting directly to the Head of Tax, you will play a pivotal role in the implementation of the indirect tax strategy and management of tax risks across Telstra’s global business.
Reporting directly to the Head of Tax, you are a driven, team-oriented and hands-on Group Indirect Tax Manager, responsible for the following:
- Be responsible for Telstra’s indirect tax strategy globally, in Australia and the more than 30 countries in which Telstra operates, with a primary focus on Australian GST and offshore VAT/GST regimes
- Research and advise the business on technical indirect tax matters, including providing guidance on the tax implications of transactions, restructures and proactive identification of law changes and their impacts on Telstra and its customers
- Advise on GST related accounting and invoicing processes and systems. This will require gaining an understanding of existing processes and systems and to work ‘hands on’ with those that will implement them to establish practical solutions that address business needs
- Have governance oversight of Telstra’s global indirect tax compliance and reporting obligations, with a view to ensuring finance operations team indirect tax compliance deliverables are both accurate and compliant with all relevant laws, as well as considering process improvements and optimising use of technology and systems capability
- Work collaboratively with colleagues in our experienced global Tax Team to ensure all indirect tax risks and opportunities are identified and managed appropriately
- Be responsible for management of all indirect tax regulator relationships, assurance reviews, audits and disputes globally
- Liaise with external auditors and tax advisors as required
- Actively ensure the Telstra tax risk governance framework is adhered to in respect of all indirect tax matters
About you
To be successful in the role you will:
- Hold a degree in commerce or law and may be CA/CPA qualified
- Demonstrated experience in a Big 4 or second tier accounting firm, law firm or industry environment
- Have strong advisory and compliance experience in Australian GST, with VAT exposure being viewed favourably
- Have a continuous improvement and change mindset in respect of both the use of new technology and opportunities to uplift processes
- Have a good understanding of ERP systems and GST controls
- Be experienced in managing regulators
- Have strong communication and stakeholder management skills
