Gordon Brothers Industries (GBI) is the largest Industrial Refrigeration (IR) Company in Australia. We have offices in each mainland state and provide complete industrial refrigeration solutions including design, construction and comprehensive servicing for a wide range of sectors including mining, chemical, food and beverage. 

GBI has joined the JCI family and as we continue to innovate and grow, we are looking for a Graduate Engineer to join our team.  

The Role 

As part of our continued growth, we are looking for a passionate Graduate Engineer to join our office located in Bendigo, Victoria.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Engineering calculations and designs for the development of refrigeration solutions

  • Preparing estimates for minor and major project work. This will include preparing tender submissions to client's specifications and deadlines.

  • Evaluating existing refrigeration plants an assisting our clients to modify the existing systems to meet their requirements.

  • Assisting all services provided by GBI to customers including consulting services, contract work, maintenance and parts supply. Providing customer support is a significant focus.

  • Project management including negotiation with suppliers, co-ordination of designs, procurement of materials, co-ordination of inter-department resources and project administration requirements.

  • Managing and controlling project costs and ensuring successful completion of all projects including regular forecasting.

  • Preparing risk assessments for all aspects of our equipment and project work. GBI has a health and safety system for safe work. Ensuring company and subcontractor compliance with these systems is considered essential and must be completed in a timely manner.

  • Project scheduling using MS Project.

  • Developing knowledge of applicable Australian and International standards for our industry and ensure compliance to our equipment and project work.

  • Drafting as required for small projects and manufacturing using AutoCAD and hand sketches.

  • Liaising with Mechanical designers to facilitate safe and efficient equipment designs.

  • Liaising with boil makers and other Trades persons.

  • Complete safety and engineering audits of refrigeration systems on site to various requirements.

  • This will include compiling client reports.

  • Contribute to the continuous development of internal systems to streamline engineering and project management functions.

  • Completing various administrative duties associated with engineering and project management operations.

  • Supervise and assist with commissioning new plants as appropriate.

  • Assist with the delivering of training for internal and external technical people where appropriate.

  • Assisting the service department with engineering and small contracting support.

  • Taking reasonable care for the health and safety of self and persons at the workplace and those who may be affected by the employee's acts or omissions at work.

  • Co-operating with GBI management or other persons as far as it is necessary to enable compliance with any requirement under Health and Safety legislation that are imposed in the interests of health, safety and welfare on the employer or any other person.

  • Performing duties as assigned by you supervisor.

The Successful Applicant will have: 

  • Tertiary qualification (minimum B.Eng.) in Mechanical, Process or Chemical Engineering

  • The ability to create, read and interpret drawings

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proactive approach and ability to work autonomously

  • Attention to detail

  • Keenness to learn and develop through contact with many different areas such as external fabricators and consultants, tradespeople and other professionals

  • Possess a current valid driver’s license

Working alongside experienced Engineers, your duties will include the following: 

  • Responsible for supporting front-line delivery of GBI's services to customers in line with the requirements of the contractual obligations or as directed by the Projects Leader, Engineering Lead or Branch Manager

  • To provide outstanding levels of customer satisfaction

  • Develop a level of expertise and become fully conversant in all systems under GBI's control.

  • To maintain a proactive nature in rectifying incidents before they arise, both technical and non-technical.

  • Maintain a neat and clean appearance while carrying out company responsibilities and representing GBI.
