Tasks and Qualifications:

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is an exciting opportunity for a Junior-Mid-level full-stack Software Engineer to join our AGV projects team. You will be designing, developing, testing, commissioning and supporting mission-critical Warehouse Control System (WCS) software that directs our AGV robots in warehouses, distribution centres and factories across the APAC region. You will contribute to developing user-friendly front-ends, reliable communication interfaces, and complex back-end software that satisfies the real-time demands of mission-critical robotic systems.

At times this is a customer facing role so requires good interpersonal skills and a customer-first approach. You may be involved in customer workshops and writing Functional Specifications, so we value your ability to communicate clearly and effectively. You will need to be able to understand customer requirements and identify their underlying needs, being able to translate this into clear and concise documentation.

Success in this role depends on strong collaboration—not only with team members but also with stakeholders across the business. We're looking for someone who takes initiative, actively engages, and fosters open dialogue to drive success.

This position offers flexible working from home arrangements. Depending on business needs, you may be occasionally required to work out of our Belrose NSW office. Occasional travel to customer sites across Australia may be required. On occasion, you may be required to support customer projects after-hours.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

This is full-stack role with a focus on application development rather than web-based front-end technology. Note that this role focuses on WCS software – not low-level robotics programming.

Mandatory skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • 1+ years professional software engineering experience
  • C# (.NET Framework) (1+ year experience)
  • WPF (ideally using MVVM) (1+ year)
  • SQL (SQL Server preferred) (1+ year)
  • Interest in robotics/automation
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Technical writing ability
  • Self-motivation, effective teamwork and ability to self-manage when working remotely

Highly valued:

  • Entity Framework or other ORM
  • WCF/Web services
  • Azure DevOps (Git, Pipelines, Pull Requests)
  • Build automation
  • Exposure to OPC/PLCs
  • Mission critical, real-time software experience
  • Exposure to warehousing and logistics concepts

Please note that due to a large number of responses, we are only able to contact those candidates that will be shortlisted for the position.

Dematic is committed to providing equal employment opportunity in all areas of employment including recruitment, selection, promotion, training etc and in accordance with federal and state legislation, Dematic Pty Ltd (Dematic or the Company) promotes a workplace free from discrimination and harassment.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
