The Domains Search team at Squarespace helps customers discover the perfect domain by combining search, recommendation, and generative AI techniques. We are building an intelligent platform that uses natural language processing, ranking models, and personalization to make domain discovery intuitive and inspiring.
We're looking for a Senior Data Scientist with expertise in Search/Recommendation systems and NLP to help guide model development, experimentation, and data insights that power this experience. This is a hybrid role working from our New York City office 3 days per week. You will report to the Senior Engineering Manager of Domains in NYC.
You'll Get To...- Design and evaluate algorithms for search, ranking, recommendation, and personalization of domain search results.
- Leverage NLP techniques (including LLMs) for query understanding, domain name generation, and contextual suggestions.
- Partner with engineers and product managers to translate ambiguous product needs into data-driven solutions.
- Conduct rigorous experimentation and build metrics frameworks to measure search quality, engagement, and growth.
- Prototype and productionize models with MLEs, ensuring scalability, performance, and monitoring.
- Perform exploratory data analyses to identify opportunities, diagnose issues, and create product insights.
- Drive personalization strategies by incorporating user behavior, account history, and demographic data.
- Mentor peers and help build a data science culture within the team.
- 5+ years of professional experience as a Data Scientist, with at least 2 in search, ranking, or recommender systems.
- Foundation in machine learning and NLP, including practical experience with embeddings, transformers, or LLM applications.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL, with experience using data science and ML libraries (e.g., Pandas, Scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow).
- Experience with large-scale experimentation frameworks (A/B testing, causal inference, uplift modeling).
- (Bonus) Experience in domain search, information retrieval, or e-commerce search.

The base salary for this position will vary based on job-related criteria including relevant skills, experience, and location, among other factors.
In addition to the cash compensation above (which includes base salary and, where applicable for eligible roles, may include overtime pay), Squarespace employees are eligible to be granted an option to purchase our common stock. Sales positions generally offer a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive structure in addition to base salary.
