Job Description:

As a Principal Field Applications Engineer, you will develop hardware and firmware solutions for our clients to accelerate their product development schedule. This position will expose you to a wide variety of challenging applications spanning consumer, automotive, medical and industrial markets. We promote innovative design thinking, empowering our clients to enhance the value of their end products by providing the flexibility to explore new ideas.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide expert guidance and implement innovative Connectivity solutions for Microchip's clients,

  • Apply engineering design principles and knowledge to help clients accelerate development, lower system costs, and enhance end-product performance.

  • Deliver comprehensive support for hardware, firmware, middleware, and development tools to assigned clients.

  • Leverage Microchip’s Client Engagement process to convert design opportunities into revenue at targeted accounts.

  • Communicate clearly with Microchip product divisions, providing measurable feedback and demonstrating return on investment for client-related initiatives.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Engineering Skill Set Required

  • Electronic Design – Creative design capability, architectural organization of hardware, firmware and software to meet system specifications, schematic/simulation/layout, Test and debug skills.

  • Ethernet Protocol Expertise – Demonstrated proficiency in Ethernet standards, encompassing the physical layer (PHY), media access control (MAC), switching concepts, and associated higher-layer protocols. Experienced in TSN, EtherCAT, and IEEE 1588v2 PTP, with a proven track record of providing support in these areas.

  • In-depth knowledge of and implementation experience with high-speed communication interfaces such as Ethernet, USB, PCI Express, or SerDes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (e.g. BSEE, BSCE) with a strong academic record. Minimum of 3 years of experience in networking-related role.

  • End-product development experience is a strong plus.

  • Fluent in Japanese (JLPT N1 certification or equivalent) and good English skills (TOEIC 800 or higher).

  • Interpersonal Influence—Uses rational and emotional drivers that would appeal to clients to comfortably drive conversations to elements of value for both parties

  • Networking—Identifies the right client stakeholders and builds connections quickly to drive consensus for design wins; works cooperatively with a wide range of internal stakeholders for success

  • Ownership—Goes out of his or her way to complete a task and has relentless drive to achieve results; is independent and self-directed, and takes initiative

  • Workflow Management—Sets clear, realistic, and time-bound objectives that align to business growth; breaks each objective into tasks and process steps that can be achieved within a realistic timeframe
