About the role  
  
We are seeking an Environmental Advisor – Air to join our HSSE team in either Brisbane,  Melbourne or Sydney. This role is responsible for leading air quality monitoring and management strategy, performance and risk management across our operations and projects. It includes technical oversight of air quality monitoring equipment and programs, data interpretation, compliance and reporting. Quarterly travel is required.

You will work as a subject matter expert and work closely with internal teams, contractors, regulators and consultants to ensure Transurban delivers best-practice air quality outcomes and maintains compliance across all jurisdictions.

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Provide technical expertise in air quality, air pollutants and emissions across tunnels, roadways and projects

  • Contribute to leadership in environmental management excellence 

  • Lead the coordination and delivery of air quality monitoring and assurance programs

  • Interpret and report on monitoring data, providing insights to support compliance and environmental performance including undertaking root cause analysis based on internal and publicly available information

  • Ensure alignment with air quality monitoring obligations, environmental approvals, EPA guidance and ISO 14001 systems

  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and respond to statutory reporting requirements

  • Support investigations into air quality incidents or non-compliance events and identify corrective actions as applicable

  • Partner with delivery teams to improve air quality planning in design, construction and operation phases and lead in air monitoring, management and reporting 

  • Engage in strategy development, including environmental policy; contracting, auditing and assurance strategies; air quality management protocols and plans; and training

  • Coordinate internal briefings on air quality performance and emerging environmental trends

This role requires someone who possesses: 

  • Strong experience in environmental management and air quality management, or equivalent experience in environmental consulting, ideally with a focus on infrastructure, transport and/or operational environments as they relate to the management and reporting of air related matters

  • Proven ability to interpret air quality legislation, approvals and standards including regulatory frameworks

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field

  • Experience conducting audits, assessments and compliance reviews across monitoring networks and environmental reporting

  • Strong communication skills and stakeholder engagement capability across technical and non-technical audiences

  • Experience working with environmental impact assessments, risk management tools and ISO 14001 systems

  • Ability to influence decisions and support training and awareness across teams

  • Confidence working with consultants, contractors and regulatory stakeholders

  • The ability to travel on occasion
