We are Render. Our singular focus is best summarised by our purpose; continuously innovate and evolve technology to build networks better and connect communities. Our geospatial network construction platform enables telecommunication network operators and construction teams to digitise the construction workflow and cut the time and cost of large-scale fibre deployment.
We’re a global organisation, but small enough that our people can have a direct impact on how we work and where we go next. We want people who can join us on our journey and grow with us.
About The Role
We are growing, and as such we have identified the need for a business stream that focuses solely on API and integrations (in Python), and we need someone to come in and lead it. This is a new role, reporting into the Senior Director, Product Engineering who is an ex-startup CTO who has lead multi-disciplinary tech teams for years, enjoys sharing knowledge and learnings, and values giving and receiving constructive feedback.
A large part of your role will ensure our core API and integration solutions are robust, scalable, and secure. You’ll be working with a modern API and Python tech stack, and building new features into existing products to further the Render roadmap.
This role has lots of variety, and while no 2 days are the same - here are some things you might find yourself doing:
- Mentoring others in your team in all things Python, and related ecosystems
- Getting hands-on with coding and programming (in Python)
- Facilitating and leading technical meetings and discussions - asking the right questions to get to the crux of the problem
- Presenting technical information to an audience of non-technical senior executives
- Looking at old ways of doing things, and suggesting new ways of doing things
- Documenting and sharing corporate knowledge across the team and business
- Taking an idea, disseminating it across the team, and leading it through to completion
- Expertise in backend software development, including public-facing API products
- Experience using AWS (preferred) or other cloud providers
- Advanced in Python, and the ecosystem that surround it
- Expertise in Restful API design and management
- Exposure and knowledge of SQL, advanced database design, with a strong understanding of optimisation and performance best
- Ability to gather and document tech requirements and specs
- An understanding of CI/CD methodologies and building pipelines.
Your first 2 - 3 months in the role will be focused on getting to know Render and how we work, while also assessing API and integration skill and knowledge gaps within the team and business (and looking to address them). This role is based in our Melbourne office (Glen Iris) but working with a flexible hybrid working schedule which includes some office time and some home time.
Typical full-time 9am - 5pm hours apply. We pride ourselves on being a start-up, however without the long hours and hustle-bustle culture. We care about our people and their balance between work and life.
About You …
You are someone who enjoys building strong working relationships, mentoring and coaching others, sharing what you know and encouraging others to share what THEY know, and you’re not afraid to get your hands dirty and muck in on the coding that needs to be done. You enjoy collaborating, bouncing ideas around, and you understand the importance of holding space for others to have their say.
Let’s get technical - here’s the other things we’d like to see:
We truly value diverse thoughts, cultures, and perspectives; and acknowledge that the tech industry is predominantly male-dominated. As such, if you don’t quite have every dot point listed above but think you have the right transferable skills for the role and could offer some diverse thinking to the mix - we would still like to see your application. You can reach out to Rebecca Max at [email protected] for a confidential discussion.
