Where the team fits in

The RCA team works with commercial property agents to promote their listings through a suite of world class display and classified media products across Australia’s favourite property websites and mobile apps, realestate.com.au and realcommercial.com.au. When you join the RCA team, you join a cross-functional group of high-achievers representing product, IT, sales and

marketing, supported by PR, communications, HR, finance, legal – all the people you need to provide exceptional products and services to Australia’s commercial property community. The team is responsible for ensuring the needs of commercial partners are always at the forefront, as well as creating products our consumers love and customers’ value.

What the role is all about

  • Working in a team of software engineers with diverse experience and background (all based in Melbourne)
  • Close collaboration with Product Managers and Designers to deliver undeniable value to our consumers
  • Informing delivery planning and technical design by providing a balanced view of options, effort and quality considerations
  • Keeping abreast of the latest technology advancements to inform product and technical design
  • Proactively contributing to the continuous improvement of products, technology, process and team development
  • Actively developing skills and experience through continual learning and
  • Managing and maintaining existing systems in line with our product custodianship
  • Participating in engineering practices that produce testable, maintainable products to be proud of
  • Knowledge sharing, growing & mentoring other engineers within the team and the wider REA community

Who we’re looking for

  • 1-3 years of experience building reliable, scalable, resilient software applications.
  • Highly proficient in TypeScript and JavaScript; experience with Scala, Java, or Ruby is highly desirable.
  • Solid understanding of Object-Oriented programming principals, with experience in Functional Programming being highly desirable.
  • An appetite to work on both front-end and back-end systems.
  • Proficiency with front-end frameworks and skills, e.g. React, CSS, HTML.
  • Demonstrated experience in back-end service/API development.
  • Experience with dev-ops tools and techniques, particularly Docker, Git, AWS, GCP and CI/CD.
  • Experience work with Relational Database (e.g. MySQL) as well as NoSQL (e.g.
  • Hands on experience of software design patterns and best practices.
  • Familiar of common web application architectures and an understanding of common security best practises.
  • Open to learning other languages and frameworks that support our technical
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working collaboratively with team members, including distributed teams.
  • Able to approach challenging situations with a solutions-focused mindset.
