The world’s biggest challenge needs you, here.
Big challenges require big solutions. And the transition to a net-zero world is about as big as it gets. Working at Shell Energy - one of Australia’s leading energy retailers - puts you at the heart of that endeavour.
Lead the change, from the frontline
At Shell Energy, we’re looking for a skilled and forward-thinking Engineer to help build and maintain the IT systems and infrastructure that power our business. Based in Melbourne, this critical role will ensure our technology operates securely, reliably, and efficiently, supporting seamless business operations and enabling innovation. You’ll stay at the forefront of emerging technologies and best practices, continuously improving our systems to meet evolving business needs.
As part of the Customer Engagement Platform team, you’ll report to the squad’s Delivery Lead and join a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing environment. We live by our “One Team” mantra, celebrating diversity, valuing every voice, and fostering a culture where innovation thrives. If you're ready to grow your career in a team that values unity, creativity, and impact, we’d love to hear from you.
With respect, integrity and honesty, responsibilities include:
Application Support: Monitor and maintain application performance, security, and availability; triage and prioritize incidents effectively.
Engineering Implementation: Contribute to secure, compliant engineering solutions with clear documentation.
System Security: Develop software aligned with Shell’s security standards, including firewalls, antivirus, and access controls.
Effort Estimation & Delivery: Collaborate with the squad to estimate and deliver engineering tasks on time, escalating risks as needed.
User Support & Training: Assist users with technical issues and ensure smooth adoption of hardware, software, and systems.
Documentation: Maintain up-to-date technical documentation, including configurations, manuals, and procedures.
Here’s what you’ll need to thrive in this role:
Software & Agile Development: Skilled in programming languages, design patterns, Agile/Scrum methodologies, version control (e.g., Git), and CI/CD practices.
Cloud & DevOps Expertise: Hands-on experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP, plus automation tools and DevOps pipelines for efficient deployment and management.
Security & Infrastructure Knowledge: Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, virtualisation (e.g., VMware), containerisation (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), and ITSM frameworks like ITIL.
Database Proficiency: Familiar with relational and NoSQL databases, including design, querying, backup, and recovery processes.
Customer-Focused & Collaborative: Committed to understanding stakeholder needs, working effectively in teams, and delivering positive outcomes.
Resilient & Continuously Learning: Adaptable to change, open to new technologies, and dedicated to ongoing professional development.
