We're REA

With bold and ambitious goals, REA Group  is changing the way the world experiences property. No matter where you're at on your property journey, we're here to help with every step - whether that's finding or financing your next home.
Our people are the key to our success. At the heart of everything we do, is a thriving culture centred around high performance and care. We are purpose driven and collaborative, which drives innovation and our ability to make a real impact. As such, we’re proud to have been named in Australia’s “Top 5” Best Workplaces two years in a row, as well as being recognised as a Best Workplace for Women.

Where the team fits in

The Fullstack Engineer role sits within the Listing Foundations squad, a key part of the Listing, Visualisation & Content business unit in Consumer group.

The Listing Foundations squad is the team supporting and evolving the core systems that power property detail pages, search results, and listing content for millions of Australians every month. We keep these systems fast, reliable, and ready for innovation, enabling REA to deliver new features and high‑quality user experiences at scale.

What the role is all about

As an Engineer in Listing Foundations, you’ll work in a cross‑functional, multi‑disciplinary squad delivering high‑quality, user‑facing experiences at significant scale. You’ll:

  • Build well‑crafted, scalable software solutions using modern engineering practices
  • Solve defined technical challenges and collaborate with senior engineers on more complex problems
  • Contribute to technical discussions around architecture, direction, and development practices
  • Pair and collaborate with other engineers to deliver integrated, consistent solutions
  • Work closely with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to meet real user needs
  • Maintain and enhance existing products, including feature improvements and bug fixes
  • Support production systems and participate in the on‑call rotation (“you build it, you run it”)
  • Contribute to a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning

Who we’re looking for

You’re a collaborative engineer who enjoys solving problems at scale and takes ownership of the systems you build. Ideally, you’ll have:

  • Strong skills in one or more of our core languages: Scala, Java, Kotlin, or TypeScript
  • Experience with modern engineering practices such as clean code, TDD, functional programming, microservices, and continuous delivery
  • Experience working across the stack, from frontend to backend systems and data pipelines
  • Experience delivering product features end‑to‑end, including deployment and operational support
  • Confidence working in agile, fast‑paced environments with a focus on quality and reliability
  • Familiarity with DevOps and cloud tooling such as Docker, Git, CI/CD, GCP, and/or AWS
  • An understanding of how to build systems that scale for large user bases
  • Mobile development experience or data engineering exposure (nice to have)

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
