The Role – Director of Engineering, Professional Services
As a Director of Engineering for our Professional Services Division, you will have the opportunity to manage a global team with direct reports in London, Australia, and oversight of a team in Europe. You will work to deliver complex digital products with an emphasis on working with data.
This role will sit in our NYC office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and lead PSO’s technical strategy and operating model: Own how we work technically - from our tools to architectural patterns and delivery methods. Drive alignment on best practices that balance innovation, quality, and maintainability across all projects.
- Design and scale high-performing engineering teams: Take a structured approach to building teams that can scale with demand and adopt new ways of working. Define clear roles, workflows, and interfaces between teams to ensure autonomy without silos.
- Champion engineering excellence and modern practices: Lead the adoption of foundational practices such as test-driven development (TDD), automated testing, CI/CD, code reuse, and documentation. Foster a culture of quality where these practices are embedded, not bolted on.
- Accelerate AI tooling adoption and developer efficiency: Identify and implement opportunities for AI and automation to enhance productivity, from code generation to testing and QA. Evangelize modern tooling and lead the mindset shift required for adoption.
- Architect bespoke solutions with a platform mindset: Guide technical design and architectural decisions across client projects. Drive reuse and common standards to reduce duplication and accelerate delivery, even for custom implementations.
- Be a visible and proactive technical leader: Provide thought leadership internally and externally. Set the tone for engineering culture, coach team members, and represent technical priorities with confidence to cross-functional stakeholders.
- Identify and resolve systemic issues: Spot recurring architectural, operational, or process challenges across projects and address them through strategic fixes, not just patchwork. Use metrics and retrospectives to drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborate across PSO and beyond: Build strong relationships with product, commercial, and delivery leads. Translate technical vision into business value and ensure alignment with customer needs and organizational goals.
- Support pre-sales and technical scoping: Own the technical elements of RFP responses, estimates, and solution designs. Bring creativity, realism, and long-term thinking to client engagements.
- Foster a strong engineering culture: Promote curiosity, learning, and professional development. Create a safe environment for experimentation, failure, and feedback, while setting clear expectations and standards.
