We’re seeking all trade qualified fitters, light and heavy diesel mechanics, mobile plant or mechanical fitters to join our award-winning team in our Townsville Business Centre. This is a Permanent, Monday to Friday role.
What you’ll be doing
As a Fitter at Hastings Deering, you will:
- Maintain Cat equipment – carry out maintenance and repairs on Caterpillar equipment to ensure reliability, performance and longevity.
- Assemble equipment – complete accurate and efficient assembly of Caterpillar equipment in line with manufacturer specifications.
- Complete job documentation – maintain and finalise all paperwork associated with job completion, ensuring records are accurate and up to date.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot – utilise Caterpillar diagnostic systems (ET, VIMS, SIMSi and SIS) to identify faults and support effective repairs.
- Put safety first – achieve safety goals through personal commitment, ensuring no harm to self or others and active participation in safety initiatives.

What you’ll need:
A successful teammate will have experience in:
- Trade qualified – relevant Trade Qualification in Automotive Mechanics, Mechanical Fitters, Fitter & Turners, or Diesel Fitters.
- Proven post‑trade experience – demonstrated minimum of 5 years’ post‑trade mechanical fitting experience.
- Hands‑on technical skills – solid disassembly and assembly experience across mechanical components.
- Technically proficient – computer literate with experience using Caterpillar systems, including SIS.
- Safety focused – strong commitment to maintaining a high standard of workplace health and safety.
- Flexible team operator – ability to work effectively within a team environment and independently when required.
- Well organised – excellent planning and organisational skills to manage tasks efficiently.
- Shift flexible – available to work rotating weekly day and afternoon shifts.
