About PLB

Product Level Blocking (PLB) is a world’s first solution for blocking the purchase of restricted items at the point of sale, under an initiative of the Australian Government to support recipients of certain welfare payments to manage their money and protect them from financial abuse.

About this Role

We are seeking an experienced Development and Support Engineer to work in collaboration with our Solution Architect and PLB Development Team. This role will spearhead the implementation, operation and support of the PLB Solution.

What you will be doing

  • Deliver, maintain, and optimize the PLB Solution and related infrastructure to support and enable the development and operations of its systems and components.
  • Create and review cloud solution designs, understanding their impact on the associated infrastructure, ensuring their security, scalability, availability, and cost-efficiency.
  • Monitor, maintain, and support the operational capacity, availability, and performance of the PLB Solution from a level two and level three support perspective.
  • Deploy new projects in the existing PLB solution infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain the infrastructure following the Infrastructure-as-Code practices.
  • Ensure the PLB Solution and related infrastructure comply with security best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with the development and operations teams, as well as other stakeholders, to ensure seamless integration and delivery.

The skills you will bring

Required

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in cloud architecture, with a focus on Microsoft Azure.
  • Strong expertise in Azure services such as Azure API Gateway, Azure API Management, Azure Functions, App Services, Storage solutions, SQL Server Managed Instances, and CDNs.
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using Bicep or ARM templates.
  • Knowledge of Azure security controls, identity management (Microsoft Entra ID, RBAC, Managed Identities), and compliance standards.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of Azure networking concepts, including VNet, NSG, Private Endpoints, subnets, and peering.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Highly cross-functional and able to swap and perform adjacent roles and responsibilities at short notice.
  • Strong relationship building, persuasion, and collaboration skills that drives effective constructive feedback and support.

Preferred

  • Experience with microservices architecture.
  • Experience in software development.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages like PowerShell.
  • Knowledge of development languages and frameworks like NET Core 6+, SQL, React, HTML, and JavaScript.
  • Knowledge of testing, reporting, and monitoring application, including Postman, Power BI, Application Insights.
  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Azure Developer Associate, or Azure DevOps Engineer Expert are a plus.
