Job Description

As a Client-Facing Databricks Architect at NCS, you will be a pivotal and influential leader within our Data & AI practice, acting as a trusted strategic advisor to our diverse clients. Your primary focus will be guiding organisations on their journey to harness the full transformative potential of the Databricks Lakehouse Platform. This involves deep, collaborative engagement with client stakeholders, from technical teams right through to C-level executives, to thoroughly understand their core business drivers and challenges. You'll work hand-in-hand with our valued partner, Databricks, to ensure our clients benefit from the latest innovations and achieve significant, tangible business value aligned with their enterprise goals, ultimately shaping how they leverage data for advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI-driven transformation.

Your core responsibility will be to architect and design sophisticated, end-to-end data solutions on the Databricks Lakehouse Platform that are robust, scalable, secure, and meticulously aligned with client requirements and enterprise architecture standards. This includes developing comprehensive Databricks adoption roadmaps and clear transformation strategies that empower clients to achieve their data-driven ambitions. Furthermore, you will provide expert technical leadership and crucial oversight to our multidisciplinary delivery teams, including Data Engineers and Data Scientists, ensuring architectural integrity, adherence to best practices, and the highest quality outcomes throughout the entire project lifecycle, from conception to deployment and beyond.

Beyond direct project architecture, you will play a key role in driving innovation and expanding our Databricks capability. This includes collaborating with our sales and business development teams to identify and shape new client opportunities, developing compelling proposals, and expertly presenting NCS’s Databricks expertise. You will consistently champion the adoption of Databricks best practices and emerging features, driving thought leadership within NCS and for our clients. Critically, you will also dedicate yourself to mentoring and developing the talent within the NCS Databricks practice, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning, and contributing significantly to our collective expertise and market leadership.

Qualifications

  • Mastery in Databricks Architecture & Strategic Solution Design: Demonstrated expertise in leading the architectural design of large-scale, complex data and AI solutions on the Databricks Lakehouse Platform. This includes a deep understanding of its core components (Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Spark, MLflow etc.), and a proven ability to develop strategic roadmaps and translate business needs into innovative, future-proof Databricks solutions. Databricks certifications are highly advantageous.
  • Exceptional Client Advisory & Senior Stakeholder Engagement: Proven ability to act as a trusted strategic advisor to senior client stakeholders, including C-level executives. You possess outstanding communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to articulate complex technical concepts, influence decision-making, understand critical business drivers, and shape client opportunities.
  • Advanced Data Engineering & Multi-Cloud Proficiency: Deep expertise in modern data modelling, data warehousing, data lake design, ETL/ELT patterns, and data integration strategies, coupled with strong programming skills (Python/Scala, SQL) and robust experience architecting solutions on major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Influential Leadership, Mentorship & Collaborative Prowess: Strong leadership capabilities with experience guiding and mentoring multidisciplinary technical teams (including Data Engineers and Scientists), fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture, and working effectively with internal teams (e.g., sales, presales) and strategic partners like Databricks.
  • Strategic Thinking, Innovation & Thought Leadership: A demonstrable capacity for strategic problem-solving, a passion for staying at the forefront of Databricks advancements and broader AI/data trends, and the ability to leverage these innovations to provide clients with a competitive edge and drive thought leadership.
  • Enterprise Data Governance, Security & Integration Expertise: Solid understanding and practical experience in designing Databricks solutions that align with enterprise data governance principles, robust security best practices, and integrate seamlessly within broader enterprise IT landscapes, potentially including MLOps pipelines and adhering to enterprise architecture frameworks. Experience in specific industries (e.g., Financial Services, Public Sector) is a plus.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
