The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the maintenance, performance, integrity, and security of enterprise databases used across both education and corporate environments. This includes supporting education-specific platforms (e.g., TASS, Synergetic, Schoolbox, Edval, Canvas) and corporate systems (e.g., ERP, CRM, Finance Systems). The DBA will ensure the availability of data to end users while implementing policies and procedures for database governance, optimization, and disaster recovery.

This role involves working closely with internal teams, clients, and vendors to provide database support, ensure system integrations, and drive performance improvements in line with best practices and regulatory requirements (e.g., privacy and data sovereignty standards).

Requirements

What you'll do:

  • Administer, monitor, and maintain databases (Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle).
  • Configure and manage backups, replication, disaster recovery strategies.
  • Ensure high availability and performance of databases across platforms.
  • Perform database upgrades, patches, and migrations.
  • Tune SQL queries and manage indexing strategies to optimise performance.
  • Provide database support for education systems such as:
    • TASS, Synergetic, Schoolbox, Edval, Clipboard, EnrolHQ, SEQTA, Canvas
  • Provide support for corporate/business systems:
    • Microsoft Dynamics, TechnologyOne, Salesforce, Xero, NetSuite
    • Work with application vendors to troubleshoot integration and performance issues.
    • Support business intelligence platforms, including Power BI and reporting services (SSRS).
  • Implement access controls and audit logs in line with privacy standards.
  • Monitor for vulnerabilities and apply patches to protect data integrity.
  • Document configurations, changes, and maintenance activities.
  • Maintain and update data dictionaries and ER diagrams.

What you'll bring:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar DBA or Data Engineer role.
  • Strong experience with:
    • Microsoft SQL Server (2014+)
    • SAP Crystal Reports
    • SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
    • SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
    • SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)
    • MySQL and/or Oracle (desirable)
  • Experience managing and supporting:
    • Education Systems (TASS, Synergetic, Edval)
    • Corporate Systems (ERP/CRM/Finance platforms)
  • PowerShell scripting and automation for maintenance tasks.
  • Experience supporting cloud-based and hybrid environments (Azure SQL, AWS RDS).
  • Understanding of data privacy and security requirements in the education sector.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information to IT and non-IT stakeholders.
