Job DescriptionAbout the role
The Data Engineer is a key member of our Data Services teams responsible for implementing, operating, and supporting robust, secure, and scalable data solutions for business stakeholders. You will contribute to engineering quality, maintain and improve system health, and solve technical challenges with passion for your craft. You will apply data and software engineering best practices, support users of our data solutions, and grow your technical skills.
Responsibilities
- Develop, test, and maintain data products, pipelines, and SQL queries with focus on quality and scalability.
- Deploy and operate data tools, infrastructure, and cloud services on platforms like AWS and Databricks with independence.
- Collaborate in project delivery using agile processes, team collaboration, and the Software Development Lifecycle.
- Participate in operations including monitoring, alerting, incident response, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Apply best practices in data, software engineering, and DevOps including code review, testing, CI/CD workflows, and data governance.
- Collaborate with senior team members to analyze requirements and design data solutions in collaboration with business stakeholders.
- Support end users by answering questions, optimizing solutions, and troubleshooting and resolving issues effectively.
Essential skills and experience
- Proven experience with data and software engineering, and DevOps practices.
- Demonstrated experience developing and optimizing data products and pipelines autonomously with understanding of data warehousing concepts.
- Experience deploying and operating data infrastructure on cloud services.
- Experience with cloud platforms.
- Strong programming skills in Python, PySpark, SQL, and shell scripting.
- Understanding of best practices including code review, testing, version control, CI/CD workflows, infrastructure as code, and data quality.
- Ability to collaborate with stakeholders and translate requirements into technical solutions with autonomy.
Desirable skills and experience
- Experience with SEEK’s data engineering toolset (e.g. Databricks, Spark, DBT, Airflow, AWS)
