Purpose;
The Data Engineer role reports to the Data Platform and Engineering Senior Manager and is responsible for developing and optimising data pipelines and analytics systems within the organisation's data platform and mentoring and supporting other Data Engineers.
In this role you will have the opportunity to contribute to designing and building a robust data infrastructure that supports data-driven decision-making and insights generation across the organization.
Core responsibilities;
Design, develop and maintain data pipelines for the ingestion and transformation of data within the Enterprise Data ecosystem.
Provide technical advice, development and mentorship within the Data Platform Team. Actively contribute to the development of processes, standards and best practices.
Implement and champion Data Engineering ways of working including and not limited to automated testing, CI/CD.
Design and implement effective data models, ensuring optimal schema design for business reporting, analytics and operational needs. Work with stakeholder to define logical and physical data models.
Help design, build, implement, and maintain cloud-first Data Pipelines and Integrations, for existing and new data sources across a variety of platforms.
Lead the continuous monitoring, optimisation & improvement of the Data & Analytics platform to ensure scalability, efficiency and reliability.
Qualifications;
Relevant IT related degree or certification/s, preferred but not essential
Experiences;
Strong knowledge of data warehousing, data management, and data architecture best practices, with hands-on experience designing and delivering data pipelines, frameworks, tools, and technologies in business contexts.
Advanced experience with Snowflake for data warehousing, including strong understanding of performance, cost optimisation, and enterprise usage patterns.
Advanced SQL skills (essential), including writing complex SQL scripts, developing and maintaining views and stored procedures, and performing SQL performance optimisation.
Advanced experience with dbt, including modelling, testing, documentation, and deployment of analytics engineering workflows.
Experience using data modelling tools such as SqlDBM or equivalent.
Experience working within DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, source control, and automated deployments using tools such as GitHub or Azure DevOps.
Good working knowledge of the modern Azure data ecosystem, including ADF, and exposure to technologies such as Spark, ADLS Gen2, Cosmos DB, AKS, and Azure Event Hubs.
Demonstrated experience or exposure to real-time data streaming and ingestion architectures (e.g. Confluent Kafka, Snowflake streaming capabilities) will be highly regarded but is not essential.
Exposure to advanced Snowflake features, such as Streamlit applications and Snowflake Intelligence, is desirable but not mandatory.
Experience within Financial Services, particularly Asset Finance, will be highly regarded.
