We are seeking a talented individual to join our Data team at Mercer. This role will be based in Melbourne or Sydney. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

As a Data Engineer, you’ll collaborate closely with a passionate team of data architects, scientists, modelers, developers, and business analysts to build and enhance data and analytics platforms that drive smarter decisions and meaningful outcomes across Mercer. Your work will help unlock insights that improve lives and shape the future.
We will count on you to:
- Implement a comprehensive, thoughtful, and best-in-class data ingestion, processing and delivery capabilities to support this line of business
- Build reusable and scalable data pipelines and new API integrations to support continuing increases in data volume and complexity
- Work in tandem with source system and application teams to integrate and establish data pipelines
- Understand data landscape i.e., tooling, tech stack, source systems etc and work closely with extended platform teams to improve data collection, quality, reporting and analytics capabilities
- Collaborate with analytics, data scientists and business teams to improve data models that feed business intelligence and AI tools, increasing data accessibility, and fostering data-driven decision-making across the organisation
- Participate in all aspects of the data platform development lifecycle, including planning, requirements, development, testing, and quality assurance
- Troubleshoot incidents, identify root causes, fix, and document problems, and implement preventive measures
- Demonstrate exceptional problem-solving skills, with an ability to see and solve issues before they affect business productivity
- Actively contribute toward our culture of continuous learning by proactively identifying and adopting best practices
What you need to have:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in computer science, information technology, or mathematics
- 7+ years of relevant Data Ingestion/ETL with AI/automation design and development experience, in mission-critical data platforms and complex data ecosystems
- Experience with Databricks, Snowflake or similar modern platform architecture
- Strong Python or similar development experience
- Experience with schema design and implementation
- Must have experience working in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing expectations and requirements (Agile)
