KOMOJU (by ) is the leading cross-border payment gateway for Japan. We power payments for companies like video game distribution platform Steam and the popular mobile app TikTok. About the positionWe are looking for an experienced Data Engineer who can design, maintain and optimize our data pipelines and infrastructure. The ideal candidate will help us transform raw data into valuable insights that drive business decisions across the organization.
As a Data Engineer, you will work closely with the business and engineering teams to develop scalable data solutions that enable efficient data processing, storage, and retrieval.
You'll be part of growing the organization’s data maturity, making data accessible and actionable. Your work will directly impact how teams make decisions, improve products, and deliver better experiences to our merchants and customers.
Responsibilities- Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines to extract, transform, and load data from various sources.
- Implement and optimize database schemas, data models, and ETL processes.
- Collaborate with data analysts, engineers and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver appropriate solutions.
- Build and maintain data infrastructure to support analytics and reporting needs.
- Ensure data quality, integrity, and security throughout the entire data lifecycle.
- Automate and improve data collection processes to increase efficiency and reduce manual tasks.
- Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline issues to ensure smooth operations.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in data engineering.
- 3+ years of experience in software engineering with interest in Data Engineering
- Experience engineering backoffice software and testing backend code.
- Ability to optimize queries and improve database performance.
- Experience with git workflow and CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of data modeling concepts and techniques.

- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Proficiency in Ruby or Python.
- Familiarity with AWS services (e.g., Redshift, S3) and infrastructure as code (Terraform) is a plus.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with database systems (PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.).
- Background in payments or fintech industry.
