Company Description

We are a customer-obsessed, boutique, data consultancy that designs, builds and transitions elegant, data-driven solutions that solve the most challenging business problems across a wide range of public and private sector organisations.

We are deliberately narrow in our focus areas, but we go deep in each of them, to the point where, if it starts with the word “data”, we probably do it.

We build on AWS, Snowflake, Databricks and a range of modern data platform technologies, using the latest tools, patterns, practices and reference architectures.

We have teams located in Melbourne and Sydney and continue to enjoy solid growth by consistently winning repeat projects with customers that treat us as a natural and trusted extension of their inhouse data, analytics, and ML teams.

We have recently invested heavily in aligning ourselves with AWS’ Data Driven Everything (D2E) Program, a tried and proven framework for building a data culture within customer organisations and accelerating their transformation to becoming a data-driven enterprise.

Job Description

As a Principal Consultant, you will own the D2E program within The Data Foundry (TDF). This will entail becoming the key D2E contact with AWS, delivering our D2E “working backwards” workshops, shaping MVP projects, then scaling these as customers come to appreciate the power of the data “flywheel”.

You will provide our customers with an elite level of technical and consulting expertise, focused on building consultative data strategies that encompass sound data governance, data security and data privacy principles.

You will earn trust with our customers and fast become their “go to” contact for advice on all aspects of their data-related plans – from strategy through to program planning and execution.

You will work collaboratively with our existing TDF experts, supporting and enhancing our technical and delivery assurance capabilities, while working hand in glove with our CDAO, Data Scientists, Data Engineers, and Data Analysts. Together, you will gather, dissect, and prioritise the data-related requirements that feed into the design of solutions that solve real-world challenges for our customers.

Your prior experience using a modern, consultative approach to tackling similar, large-scale, business problems and your ability to translate these into secure, scalable, cloud-based, “art of the possible” solutions, will see you thriving in this role.

Do you possess?

  • Expertise in providing authoritative, consulting advice, technical guidance and expertise to clients and internal teams in the development and implementation of data strategies and related change programmes
  • The ability to deliver compelling, outcomes-based, customer-centric workshops
  • A strong background in data security, data governance, data privacy, and data-centric solution development
  • An instinct for zeroing in on data-related customer use cases that are likely to represent significant return on investment
  • Proven experience with DataOps principles and toolsets
  • A familiarity with Agile development methodologies and rituals
  • A knack for troubleshooting various technical problems across a wide-variety of technical and data platforms
  • The confidence to build effective customer relationships with the ability to translate business requirements into sound, technical specifications, effort estimates and Statements of Work
  • The ability to identify new market opportunities, analyse competitor activities, perform market research and re-purpose marketing assets to take advantage of those opportunities
  • Experience recommending new product opportunities and preparing business cases based on the market research and Intelligence gathered
  • Hands-on experience contributing to developing and improving business processes and supporting systems.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Masters Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field
  • 5 years of experience in data strategy, analytics, governance, security, or related fields
  • 5 years of experience in a senior consulting role
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, coupled with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • A sound knowledge of modern data platforms and the cloud-based technologies that underpin them.

Additional Information

Join our team

  • We are truly customer-centric: everything we do starts with a customer and works backwards from there
  • We’re passionate about the technical community we are a part of and believe in giving something back to the open source, AWS, Snowflake, Databricks and other communities that we draw so heavily from
  • We care about climate change and don’t trust governments to deal with it in a practical or timely manner: instead, we believe that if we do our part in reducing our own carbon footprint and others follow suit then, in unision, we can make a collective difference
  • We support and contribute to a different cause each quarter, based on employee nominations, where a modest donation can have a disproportionate impact on the outcomes they drive
  • We’re committed to developing your career by way of a customised, Growth and Development plan
  • We believe in diversity of thought, and we’re focused on ensuring all our employees feel welcome, included and respected every day they work for The Data Foundry.

Can’t pass up this awesome opportunity? Apply now!
At TDF, we require all employees to have the relevant right to work in Australia, and we will request proof of working rights if you are successful in securing a position with us.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
