Job Description


Job Summary

As a CoStar News Australia Journalist covering the Victorian market, you will be responsible for delivering high-impact, data-driven reporting on the commercial real estate sector. You will utilise CoStar's proprietary datasets to uncover market trends and provide local insights that empower industry professionals to make informed decisions. This role requires a journalist who can break major news while also providing analysis into the market trends driving the commercial property landscape. By integrating the CoStar Research + News engine into your storytelling, you will ensure our audience receives the most accurate and timely market intelligence across the commercial property market in Victoria.

Responsibilities:

  • Market Coverage: Report daily on commercial property activities in Victoria, including office, retail and industrial sectors.

  • Data-Driven Storytelling: Integrate CoStar proprietary data and analytics into news stories to provide unique market context and visualisations.

  • Breaking News: Proactively identify and report on breaking news, major transactions, and significant industry moves before the competition.

  • Trends and Insights: Analyse sector trends and produce insightful features that explore the broader economic shifts and trends affecting commercial real estate.

  • Industry Networking: Build and maintain an extensive network of key industry contacts, including agents, developers, and investors, to secure exclusive leads.

  • Editorial Collaboration: Work within a high-performance newsroom environment, contributing to content roadmaps and ensuring all output meets global brand standards.

About You

  • Proven experience as a news journalist with a focus on business, economics, or property.

  • Strong understanding of macroeconomics and its impact on the commercial real estate market.

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret complex datasets and translate them into engaging narratives.

  • Exceptional networking skills with the ability to source breaking news independently.

  • Proficiency in digital-first journalism, including SEO best practices and social media engagement.

  • Practical knowledge of data visualisation tools and CMS platforms.

Education/Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in a fast-paced newsroom environment.

  • Degree in Journalism, Communications, Economics, or a related field.

  • Specialised training or proficiency in:

    Data Journalism, Financial Reporting, Economic Analysis, CMS platforms
