About the Role

The Microsoft 365 Copilot Administrator is responsible for the setup, governance, and continuous improvement of Microsoft 365 Copilot across the organisation. This role acts as the technical and governance owner for Copilot, ensuring the capability is configured correctly, aligned to data protection standards, and delivering measurable productivity benefits. Working closely with Strategy and Transformation, IT, Information Security, Risk, and business teams, the Copilot Administrator enables safe adoption and ongoing optimisation.

Copilot Configuration & Platform Management

  • Configure and manage Microsoft 365 Copilot settings within the Microsoft 365 Admin Centre

  • Manage Copilot licensing, access, and feature availability across user groups

  • Ensure prerequisite Microsoft 365 services (Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange) are correctly configured to support Copilot functionality

  • Manage API connectors and integration points used by Copilot

  • Engineer automation and telemetry collection using PowerShell and Graph API for AI operational insights.

  • Integrate Copilot activity logs with SOC/SIEM tooling in collaboration with Security Operations.

  • Implement platform performance monitoring, cost optimisation, and reliability controls.

Data Governance, Security & Compliance

  • Conduct data readiness and security assessments prior to Copilot deployment and expansion

  • Implement and manage sensitivity labels, retention policies, and data classification using Microsoft Purview

  • Configure and maintain Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies relevant to Copilot usage

  • Validate permissions and access controls to ensure Copilot surfaces only authorised content

  • Ensure Copilot configuration aligns with organisational security frameworks and regulatory requirements

  • Maintain a Responsible AI framework, including AI risk assessments, bias monitoring, and mitigation controls.

  • Lead AI‑related incident response activities, coordinating with Security, Risk, and Legal.

  • Develop and maintain governance guardrails, RASCI models, and approval workflows for AI capability release and lifecycle management.

AI Capability & Agent Management

  • Manage and deploy Microsoft 365 Copilot agents (e.g. Researcher, Facilitator, SharePoint agents) using Copilot Studio

  • Configure agent scopes, permissions, and behaviour in line with governance standards

  • Monitor agent usage and ensure responsible AI operation

  • Conduct structured evaluations of new agent features and advanced capabilities.

  • Implement agent level telemetry and feedback loops to support lifecycle governance.

Adoption, Change & Value Realisation

  • Support adoption and change strategies to enable effective and responsible Copilot usage

  • Work with the education team to develop user guidance and support materials focused on safe and productive AI use

  • Identify power users and support business teams in defining appropriate Copilot use cases

  • Define and track usage and productivity metrics using tools such as Viva Insights.

Monitoring, Support & Optimisation

  • Monitor Copilot usage, performance, and security signals

  • Act as the escalation point for Copilot-specific functional and configuration issues

  • Use analytics and feedback to identify optimisation opportunities and training needs

  • Continuously refine Copilot configuration to improve effectiveness and risk posture

  • Implement AI telemetry dashboards for operational insights and decision making.

  • Drive continuous improvement cycles, including scenario testing, capability review, and architecture optimisation.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)

  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Associate or equivalent (highly regarded)

  • Security, Compliance, or Copilot-related Microsoft certifications (desirable)

Experience

  • Strong experience administering Microsoft 365 tenants in an enterprise environment

  • Demonstrated experience with CoPilot, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Exchange Online

  • Experience implementing data governance controls using Microsoft Purview and DLP

  • Experience supporting AI, automation, or advanced digital workplace capabilities

  • Experience working in regulated or security-conscious environments

Skills

  • Microsoft 365 Platform Expertise: Deep understanding of Microsoft 365 services and how Copilot interacts with organisational data

  • Security & Governance Focus: Strong capability in data protection, permissions management, and compliance controls

  • Technical Automation: Experience using PowerShell to automate configuration, provisioning, and reporting

  • AI Literacy: Understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs) and responsible AI implementation in enterprise environments

  • Problem Solving: Ability to analyse complex data access and security scenarios and implement effective controls

  • Communication: Ability to clearly explain AI-related risks, controls, and usage guidance to non-technical stakeholders

  • Collaboration: Proven ability to work across IT, security, risk, and business teams
