The Controls & Assurance Lead – L1 Risk drives risk maturity, control effectiveness, and process improvement across the personal and motor lending value chain. Reporting to the Head of Risk and Operational Excellence, the role leads first-line risk initiatives to strengthen controls, improve efficiency, and deliver strong customer and compliance outcomes.
The role partners with key stakeholders to ensure robust, data-driven operations aligned to strategy, embedding a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

In this role, you’ll lead and execute the control framework activities within the Business Unit, including RCSA, control testing, KRIs, and governance reporting. You’ll work closely with business teams to embed Latitude’s RMF, uplift control effectiveness, and support compliance with regulatory obligations.
Facilitate continuous RCSA activities, ensuring controls are complete, accurate, and aligned to risk appetite.
Plan and execute control testing for design and operating effectiveness;
Incident & Issue Management support remediation of gaps, including deep root cause analysis to identify control gaps and process improvement opportunities.
Maintain audit-ready risk registers, control libraries, testing evidence, and governance documentation.
Conduct risk assessments for change initiatives and confirm pre- implementation control readiness.
Coordinate compliance attestations and monitoring; track and report remediation of findings.
Partner with Compliance and Legal to interpret regulatory changes and support implementation.
Prepare concise risk and control reporting for leadership and committees, with clear insights and actions.
Collaborate with the Incident Lead to convert incident themes into durable control improvements.
Ideally, we're looking for the following:
Let’s look at you:
Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Risk Management, or related discipline (mandatory).
Minimum 5 years’ experience in operational risk, compliance, or audit within financial services, preferably consumer lending products.
Demonstrated experience leading operational improvement or transformation programs.
Extensive experience within a regulated environment, ideally under ASIC, and other regulatory requirements relevant to consumer finance / financial services across
Australia and New Zealand.Proven expertise in process improvement methodologies
Demonstrated ability to design and implement robust operational controls that enhance efficiency and reduce risk.
Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience using data and metrics to drive business decisions.
Strategic thinker with a hands-on, delivery-oriented approach.
Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills across all levels of the organisation.
Ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive alignment on complex issues
Strong communication skills with the ability to translate operational insights into actionable business strategies
