Associate / Senior Associate, Tax - Disputes
Your role
Are you ready to take the next step up in your tax law career? You will be based in Melbourne as part of our national Tax team which also includes lawyers in our Sydney Tax practice. Working principally in income tax, you will work closely with our Partners and the wider team to utilise your knowledge and experience in the most complex and interesting transactions and disputes in the market.

As an Associate or Senior Associate in our Tax Practice your role will adapt to the needs of the practice and your skill-set, including that you will have the opportunity to:
- Represent many of Australia's and the world's top companies in:
- tax advisory work to assist them implement their commercial objectives with expert tax guidance; and/or
- resolving their disputes (including transfer pricing), through the life cycle from advice on risk, ATO engagement, alternative dispute resolution, mutual agreement procedures or litigation in court.
- Provide technically sound and commercially informed advice on tax issues that are relevant to transactions and projects for our clients in various sectors, including technology and energy.
- Collaborate closely with other practice groups across Allens, including Corporate M&A, Banking and Finance, Investment Funds and Superannuation, Real Estate and Dispute Resolution, to deliver seamless, cohesive and commercially optimised advice and specialist transactional support.
- Work with the leading members of the tax bar where opinions are required for clients or in managing disputes for clients.
- Support clients through various ATO engagement, including private rulings and class rulings processes, FIRB approvals, reviews and audits and advice on strategic engagement approaches to minimise risks and resolve issues efficiently.

About you
You will have:
- Experience in Tax, preferably mostly at a large law firm or law firm with a recognised specialist tax practice.
- Experience in advisory and transactional work and/or tax controversy (including audits, objections and litigation).
- Been regularly exposed to clients and have provided advice both autonomously and as part of a team.
- An ability to work independently and effectively manage smaller matters and elements of larger matters.
- A desire to learn, grow, network and mentor others.
